Introduction:
San Carlos City is a second class component city of Negros Occidental, re-classified accordingly in Memorandum Circular no. 01-C-08 dated November 27, 2008. The city of San Carlos is located at the Northeast part of Negros, Island bounded on the north by the Municipality of Calatrava, on the West by the Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto and the City of Bago, on the South by Municipality of Vallehermoso (Negros Oriental) and the City of Canla-on, and the East by Tanon Strait.(www.sancarloscity.gov.ph) San Carlos City has a total land area of 45,150 hectares. It mainly consists of sloping to rolling lands ranging from 0-18 percent (18.77 %) of the total land area which is 8,473.93 hectares of land. The northern part of the city is mostly moderate to rolling slopes ranging from 18-30 percent (27.85%) which is equivalent to 12,575 hectares of land. 20.82 % of its land area constitutes the steep areas with slopes which is widely distributed to about 30-50 percent or which is equivalent to 9,400 hectares. While the remaining 32.56 percent are slopes which is distributed above 50 percent. San Carlos City has an estimated coastline stretch of about 21 kilometers starting from Talave coastline of Barangay Punao and it terminated to the coastline of Barangay Buluangon on the demarcation of the Province of Negros Occidental from the Oriental side of Negros. Seasons pattern in San Carlos have two types. The wet and dry seasons. The Dry season begins in December until early May while the Wet season starts in June to September and it terminates on the month of October.(www.sancarloscity.gov.ph) San Carlos City innate eight (8) major rivers.
