The individual level of Figueroa’s framework looks at the individual values and thoughts on touch football. It also incorporates your attitude to the sport and how your genes effect your participation in the sport. This is the first level in Figueroa’s framework and this level has had the most effect in my participation in touch football. My values for sport are high, particularly for team sports, but I have found that I was never suited to the game of touch football due to my size and weight. I have had many opportunities to play touch football thorough school and the other sports I play, when I have, I have enjoyed it but never felt comfortable. This is due to my inability to have the required speed that the game desires.

The current training program consists of interval and continuous training; however the drills which are integrated are not as good as they could potentially be when training for touch football. The continuous training currently in the program is a 3km cycle, 2km swim and 4km run, which are not as relevant when training for touch whilst in the specific preparation stage of the program. The interval training is relevant and good because the sprints are specific to touch, however some changes would also be made to target and improve, speed, agility and aerobic…

The individual level of Figueroa’s Framework, looks at a person’s own attitudes, values and beliefs. It is also essential to look at whether there have been external influences involved in shaping these attitudes, particularly those that relate to stereotypes (Weebly, 2014 – page 2). This level is crucially important as an individual’s choice is the main contributor towards their participation and sporting pathways (Sports Gov, 2013 – page 3). The second level, interpersonal, investigates family, coaches, role model influences as well as the influence of the social norms of society. This level focuses on the way peers and family influence ones participation in different physical activities. The institutional level, being the last level covered in the presentation, focuses on the influence schools, sporting clubs, local community facilities and certain family beliefs and religions. Figueroa’s framework was developed in 1990 by professor peter Figueroa as a way to explain how access in sport and physical activity can vary between individuals. In this framework 5 different headings are seen. The individual level is about the personal attributes of an individual which determines their access to sport. The structural level shows that peoples access to sport and physical activity may be influenced by the distribution of resources both human and financial. And the last level is the cultural level. This level individuals or group’s beliefs, values and coaches may affect ones equity in accessing physical activity.
