Senior Seminar Reflection
The Senior Seminar Presentations started with a quote that caught my attention it was, "The media don't tell us what to think, they tell us what to think about." This allowed me to be engaged right from the start, allowing for me to have an experiences where I gain knowledge on a lot of new topics. I have never stayed in connection with all of the community and world things that are going on around me and sometimes this is not a positive. However, by not staying up to date, I thought the information that was presented by the speakers was very intellect and relatable to the lives of the students at Indiana Wesleyan University. Similar to any other presentation, people are always going to develop a favorite and a least favorite. I developed two favorite presentations and two of my least favorite presentations. My experience of this presentation was overall a pleasant one.

In my case, I would state that I dont need any more chiefs on this project when I need Indians for the tribe. Meaning I have enough eyes on me, but I could use some help in on the actual project itself. I would think if they trusted Jim with a project like this they would have given him the reigns and stop hovering over his shoulder. In a since, with the appointment of Bob Petroski and sally Fukuyama on the team they have all but taken away the full credit of the project of Jim. They have forced Jim into a lose-lose situation. The success of the project would be taken by the cronies of the department head and the Chief operating officer and the failure would fall solely into Jims lap. The topic my group talked about was the temporary immigration ban that President Trump ordered. I thought this was a good topic to talk about because being from south Florida there is a lot of hispanics and that may be a big problem for some of them. I thought it was very good for me to listen to my partners opposing views on it and compare our thoughts on deporting immigrants. I thought the mirroring part of the workshop was very well because you get to know if you're partners actually listened to your opinion and my partners listened very well to my opinions.…

Before watching I assumed it was going to be another person about the dire issue of racism or health care in Africa. However, she completely captured my attention within the first few minutes. I was intrigued by the way children literature influenced the way she wrote, but also the way she saw other ethnicities. This later turned into how she saw others perceiving Africa. Her solution was to challenge people to not buy into the single story. She firmly believes that if people were to know all the stories of a certain place they wouldn’t treat them any differently than they would their…

The next presentation I watched was Joe Kowan’s “How I Beat Stage Fright”. This was a completely different experience for me that Chris Milk’s presentation and I understand why. Chris Milk’s was based on virtual reality. A cool technology, but there wasn’t much humanity in his presentation. An irony since his presentation was about bringing out humanity through technology. I related more to Joe Kowan because of the humility, honesty, and basic humanity he exhibited. He talked about using his fears and anxieties to overcome and achieve what he ultimately desired. Additionally he used humor and humility to achieve his goals.…

One my way to the meeting I was feeling really anxious. I didn’t really know what to expect. I could imagine how many people would be there or what the energy would be like. I wondered if there would be tears, or laughter. If it would be happiness or solemn silence. I had never been to anything like that so I think the feeling was just me being completely unsure. I was also excited to see what it would be like. To hear what they had to say and to connect with them.…

The session that I attended was Dolores Huerta speech, which was very interesting. Dolores Huerta was born on April 10, 1930, she is a labor leader and civil rights activist who, along with Cesar Chavez, co-founded the national Farmworkers association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). Huerta has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for workers, immigrants, and women’s rights. She is truly a leader, working tirelessly to help the poor and women and children. She talks about war, genocide, Mass incarceration, and poverty. During her participation in non-violent protest she was arrested 22 times trying to make changes in society. Her main question was what can we do as people to solve things in the world? Putting political issues on politicians. She talks about how change comes from the bottom, people have to be responsible because at the end of the day no one is going to make changes for us we as people have to make them for ourselves.…

For my senior project I took on the task of rebuilding a 2007 Polaris 700 snowmobile. It was a challenge working on a new kind of machine, all of my previous mechanical experience being on motorcycles. I decided to step out of the box and try something new! Difficulties came along with this decision from lack of knowledge on the simple make up of parts that comprise a snowmobile, to a basic problem with tools available at my house. Luckily I have friends and family members that are very knowledgeable in all motorized vehicles and these folks came in handy when I would get stuck during the process of swapping most every stock part on the sled out for aftermarket upgrades.…

I disliked the foreign captions. Some parts of the video were not in English. The parts that were not in English left me wondering what they were talking about. Since the captions were in a foreign language, I was unable to read and translate the speaker’s words. Another weakness is the sound of the video. Sometimes the sound was different from the speaker's mouth. Some of the strengths in this film was some of the lecturers were entertaining. The content they discussed was interesting at times because they added real life examples. Though the picture quality was bad, I could tell the video was put together nicely. They displayed keywords and quotations throughout the movie. Each keynote speaker seemed passionate about the information they taught. The graphic and video transitions were nice as well. Overall, I enjoyed the video though at times boring. The orators broke down the universal laws in ways I could understand it thoroughly. The pictures caught my attention and the speakers were…

The RD that mentored me was Rochelle Werner and she works in the WIC and medical department at the San Benito Health Foundation in Hollister. We communicated through emails and through a phone call. She told me that her job entails providing individual counseling for pregnant/postpartum women, infants, children 0-5 years old, and adults with chronic conditions like obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes. She added that she also works on various quality assurance and management projects for the clinic. My mentor told me that when applying for an internship, I should look into the details of the internship and what the internship offers in order to find out if the internship is right for me. I learned that I don’t necessarily have…
