Senioritis is a plague that ravages our nation. High schoolers who have contracted this disease are ready for their senior year to be over. This epidemic has caused so many GPA’s to fall and many four point zero’s to be squandered. We haven’t found a solution for this issue. Possibly it is just part of human nature. A phase that we go through. No one will really know the answer.…
2. Everyone suffers as a freshman. Unproductive upperclassmen take this experience and attempt to get revenge for their experience by unjustly punishing their charges. A good and just upperclassman takes his experiences as a freshman and shaping their leadership off of hard but fair role models.…
For most students, Senioritis won’t appear until the later years of high school, most likely the end of junior year and of course during the senior year. For the most part, I don’t think people just become lazy and de-motivated overnight but Senioritis is more of a thing that you adapt through your high school years. Many students try to make their senior year the easiest by doing everything they can for the first three years, so when their senior year comes around you’re not totally swamped with schoolwork. Usually, some seniors get out at the end of fifth period, and some are out of school after lunch. Despite contracting ‘Senioritis’ many students don’t get Senioritis because they’re just so pumped to get out of high school and keep moving…
College is unfamiliar territory to individuals of my age. I have friends and family members who have been through it, yet everyone’s experience is completely diverse. Nevertheless, there is one statement that is habitually received amongst many when they talk about their college experience: “College is the best four years of your life, so be sure to make the most of it.” That is unerringly what I plan to accomplish with my four years at the University of Louisville. I want it to be memorable.…
Another reason why senior year differs from freshman year is the fact that the seniors set the standards for the rest of the school. The other grades look up to the seniors and pretty much follow what they do. At football games, the seniors control the student section and tell them what to wear and the rest of the school pretty much goes along and does what the seniors tell them. The freshmen get very little say and usually get the worst of everything. At football games or other sporting events they have to sit in the very back of the student section. All the other grades make fun of the freshman joking with the idea of “fresh meat”. With being a freshman comes no or very…
For first year students, college is new for them and going through college they are exploring themselves. In…
Every high school senior is given certain "privileges" that the underclassmen are not. There have been complaints about whether or not seniors should be entitled to these privileges or not. The answer to this complaint is, yes, seniors are very entitled to their privileges. The expectations for students have increased considerably over the years, making reaching senior year less common for students than it used to be. Any student that has been able to withstand the stress of high school for 4 (or in some cases more) years is more than entitled to a few privileges. The privileges themselves are not anything huge in the first place. The seniors are dismissed a few minutes before the underclassmen before their lunch and at the end of the day. They are also given up…
Going into my freshman year of college at The College of Charleston, I was unsure how the college experience would affect the next four years of my life; however, after nearly two semesters of coursework, career exploration, playing division one baseball, and being involved in the community, I have decided that the Honors College is the best path for me. I have set my mind on majoring in Biology and pursuing a career as a physician. The interdisciplinary studies, Honors Immersed, and the community involvement through Honors Engaged the Honors College offers directly line up with what I want to pursue outside of the classroom with regards to medicine and exploration into the sciences. These aspects of the Honors College will not only put me closer to achieving my goal of getting into Medical School, but I know I will enjoy them, as I have a passion for learning and helping others.…
When students go to college, they have to stay on a continuous routine. They have to be at class, do homework, socialize, and sleep. This constant routine helps the body maintain a healthier state. The consistent repetition makes it easier on the body providing better performance. Socialization is also an important factor to health. Socializing provides contribution to mental health, and emotional health. Talking and being with friends can reduce stress and anxiety levels. People who go to college always have an option for socialization. College graduates also come out of out college confident in their futures. According to blackenterprise.com, “Seven in 10 of them said they participated in an internship, apprenticeship or co-op during college”. These can provide an idea of what students can expect from their futures. This leads to confidence. A person with a confident outlook is more likely to be successful than a negative outlook.…
When most student are asked about year-round school they think it means giving up their summer, but that’s not exactly right. Year-round school doesn’t necessarily mean giving up summer vacation. There are variety of calendars school districts follow. The current school year is based on an outdated agricultural model, when families need to use their children to help them with a harvest. Most families aren’t like that anymore. It’s time to update the school calendar to reflect modern society. Year-round schooling calendar would be beneficial to students.…
The last thing you want to have to worry about senior year is qualifying or getting accepted into the college you are bound to go to. This quote from source A describes the theme perfectly, “If the goal is to earn a living then maybe it isn’t really true that 18 year olds need to be imparted with a sense of panic about getting into college” (Crawford, Matthew B.). This quote uses the word “panic” to describe the sense of stress that these high school students can feel when they are trying to live up to their families' expectations.…
Being a student athlete should be a privilege, a reward; it should always come second, after the students education. It seems that student athletes get special treatments, getting away with having low grades, having an extended time to do assignments, or even being excused from them. There needs to be a more strict policy in order to be on a high school sports team and to play in games. After all, high schools do not require students to participate in team or individual sports.…
High school classes might have seemed better in the past compared to college. You might feel more comfortable in smaller classes than you would heading off to university, but that is simply from the comfort of your surroundings. You are familiar with your teachers and your closest friends are always by your side. This might create a friendlier environment, but branching away from the only things you have ever known will help you grow as an individual. Leaving home to start your life as an adult can be tough; however, learning every day responsibilities and making new relationships are two things that will benefit anyone who is getting ready to enter the “real world.” Students benefit more from college classes over high school classes because they learn responsibilities and create new relationships which help them to gain independence.…
Being a college student is one of the most stressful and time consuming jobs any person can have. Getting good grades, being in clubs, and working a job all at the same time can leave your schedule fully booked and can have many people overwhelmed. On top of all that, student loan debt can follow you throughout your entire life and can impact future career options. After just one semester I can tell anyone that college is not only a full time job but it may just be the most important jobs you can have in your entire life. I believe I should receive the DMACC foundation scholarship because of my academic achievements thus far and the numerous other organizations I am a part of.…
