college application process. Once a student gets into their school of choice, they think they can slack off and “live the life”. Senior year begins for most seniors as a normal high school year would usually begin. The senior students fall into the normal routine of attending all of their classes. When senioritis, a realization hits soon after. Why would a student who plans on being an architect even want to think about taking a chemistry class? Some seniors may stop attending their classes. Why go to calculus when they won’t need it after graduation? Seniors start to count down the months, days, and hours until graduation. In classes, the clocks seem to be slowed down. Time goes by slow for the seniors who just want to move on with their lives. High school classes just don’t seem to hold seniors’ interests after senioritis hits.
Students work up to high school for eight years. In middle school, some eighth graders start to hear rumors about how rough high school will be. Some young students may be scared for their life before entering high school. This fear tends to die down midway through the freshman year, fading more through the sophomore and junior year, and by the time it is the student’s senior year, fear of high school has completely evaporated. As a senior, the students have experienced a lot of what their high school has to offer. Coming in as a freshman, students have a sort of respect for the upperclassmen, faculty, and even the high school itself. Seniors no longer have upperclassmen to fear for or respect. Seniors are the upperclassmen now. High school still has a lot to offer, but it is not what seniors are looking for anymore.
Senioritis does not always hit every single senior. When seniors are involved in school activities, they find more friends and more fun throughout their high school years.
Even though senioritis is nearly unavoidable for high school seniors, it is not the end of the world.
All seniors have to do is not get kicked out of the college they have already been accepted to. If a senior’s grades have plummeted way too much, colleges may send a letter and ask what happened with their grades. They can take away their admittance. Not only can students get in trouble from colleges, but also the high school. High school seniors may get caught skipping class and receive detentions or suspensions. One very awful thing that can happen is when a student is already into their dream college and they begin to fail classes. When the second semester of their senior year has ended, they realize there is no way to pass the class and now they cannot graduate with their class. That leads to summer school or even getting held back and retaking senior year of high
school. Senior year is very important to make sure that students stay focused and keep their grades consistent with their three previous years. As seniors, they can slack off and celebrate being a senior, but they have to make sure to plan ahead and stay focused on continuing to make good grades. After all of the slacking during senior year is over, students need to buckle up and enjoy the long ride of harder and bigger loads of work in college.
