Sequencing Deficit Case Study
Sequencing deficits may be present at any age and range from mild to severe.
Commonly found in individuals with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, cognitive-perceptual disorders, and mental health disorders.
Common Diagnoses:
CVA
TBI
Autism
ADHD
Dementia
Sequencing boards will assist individuals in completing activities from start to finish
Each board has its own set of sequencing cards that are labeled, such as “Getting Dressed” or “Brushing Teeth”
Each board will be placed in an area where the specific task is usually carried out.
For example, if an individual is getting dressed, he/she can refer to a sequencing board in the bedroom and easily see the steps to getting dressed correctly.

*Print on regular paper and laminate or print on cardstock, whichever is preferred.
Step 2: Gather up a separate cork board for each sequencing category and label the category with the name of the activity such as, ‘dressing’ or ‘bathing’. The cards will then be attached to the cork board in the correct sequence using thumbtacks or pushpins.
Step 3: Attach the sequencing board/boards with the foam adhesive stickers to a wall in a room where the activity is typically performed.
OT practitioners may assess skills by grading sequencing activities up or down. The activity can be graded up by taking all cards off the cork boards, mixing them up, and asking the individual to find all steps related to a specific activity and place them in order. If the individual cannot place the cards in the correct sequence, the practitioner may grade the activity down by assisting the individual in placing the cards in the correct order. The activity may be altered to suit the needs and abilities of each client.

Use of the adaptive sequencing boards ensure that individuals with sequencing deficits can perform activities without unnecessary confusion and increase independence while performing everyday
