Son of Sam, Ted Bundy, the Green River Killer, and John Wayne Gacy are all widely known serial killers. These man decided one way or another that they had the right to kill, that they had some right to play God. Many people wrestle with the issue of nature versus nurture even when it comes to serial killers. Before we go any further I ask you to clear your mind of all your conceptions of a serial killer, this will cloud your judgement. A serial killer is defined as, “someone who murders more than three victims one at a time in a relatively short interval”. There has been about 400 serial killers in the last century just in the United States. The United States actually hold 76% of the world’s serial killers("Modus Operandi- Serial Killers"). Eighty percent, of which, were white men in their twenties to thirties. Between these 400 killers they had between 2,526 to 3,860 victims, of these victims 65% are female ("Modus Operandi- Serial Killers"). This does not mean that women and minorities are not capable of becoming a serial killer this is just the statistics. We are born with a savage nature and in some cases people are born with an abnormality in their brains. Putting that mixture together, it is possible for anyone to be a serial killer. We would not know, usually, by just looking at them. Most serial killers live normal lives and are married with children. If you were to ask there neighbors or families about them they are normal. Most families are shocked to find out what the killers have done. We are trained to control our emotions, though in families where there is abuse does effect a person in some cases.
