Sermon lets make a deal
"LET'S MAKE A DEAL!"

INTRODUCTION

1. The title for this lesson comes from a popular game show on television... a. "Let's Make A Deal!", with Monty Hall b. Some even recorded it on their VCR for later viewing!

2. We're going to borrow the basic concept from this game show... a. To set the stage for our study b. To help illustrate an important point in our lesson

[I want you to imagine that have within my power to offer you some great deals...] I. LET'S MAKE A DEAL - THE GAME

A. MY FIRST OFFER... 1. I will give each of you $100,000 for your car(s) right now! 2. Would anyone turn this offer down? -- I doubt it; but before you spend the money, I have another deal to offer you

B. MY SECOND OFFER... 1. I will give each of you $1,000,000 for your car(s), but... a. You must give me back the $100,000 I just "gave" you b. You must wait one week c. You must leave your car where it is parked right now until next week d. You must be back here next Sunday to receive the money 2. Would anyone turn this second offer down? I doubt it... a. I suspect everyone would be willing to exchange $100,000 for $1,000,000 b. Not even the conditions would deter you; somehow you would: 1) Get back home (even walk if you have to) 2) Get along all week without your car 3) Get back here next Sunday, no matter what -- For the sake of illustration, let's assume everyone accepted the second offer

C. LET'S ANALYZE THIS... 1. The first offer sounded exciting at first, but paled in comparison to the second offer a. Who would wouldn't want $100,000 for their car(s)? b. But then the offer wasn't as exciting compared to the second offer 1) $1,000,000 is worth a lot more

In his book, Robert Kuttner (1999) tries to shake the dominant orthodoxy of laissez-faire economics, which he sees as the “natural form of capitalism,” by attempting to “reclaim a defensible middle ground” between when the market is “best left alone” and when it “needs help” (p. 5). Kuttner’s chief premise is that a mixed economy is necessary for a society that is civil and decent, a society where the economy is in optimum health. For Kuttner, unfettered laissez-faire economy is in conflict with mixed economy, and that their opposition is essentially a struggle between the moderate but rational dissent — the call for a mixed economy — and the prevailing orthodoxy, or the desire to retain the economic status quo. He further maintains that a mixed economy is realistic precisely because there is virtually no escape from politics, especially in the economic landscape where the government can influence its course by adopting certain national economic policies.…

One may say that “At the Buffalo Bill Museum, 1988” by author Jane Tompkins is a timeless work that openly questions the morality of human behavior in the Western Era of American history. However, it is none other than a wordy diary entry. Tompkins comes off as snooty, conceited, and a bit of a snob. Throughout the essay, up until the end, Doctor Tompkins tried to force her thoughts down the reader’s throats. Tompkins attempt to explore with the reader quickly turns into 13 pages of preaching her own ideas. Perhaps, however, I am not the best judge of her essay. I was not entertained by her writing, but given her audience are most likely other professors or English scholars she did cover Ed Weathers Rules well.…

    Dry Bones Sermon

I can still recall the first time I heard a sermon on the valley of dry bones, taken from the book of Ezekiel chapter 37. I was around six or seven years old at Greater Salem Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, were the Rev. T.B. Boyd was painting a picture of this valley full of dry dead bones toss around like dolls all over valley. I can still hear him as he talk about how depressing and dismal the sight was, dead dry bones as far as the eyes could see, bone after bone and they were dead. After a brief pulse, he would raise several questions: Is there any hope in this situation? Can these bones live again? In addition, he would expound on the conversation God had with Ezekiel regarding whether the bones could live again. Rev. Boyd would…

iv. To set the stage I am going to provide some background to for the topic. The conspiracy of Paul McCartney’s Death, first started in 1969 when, according to (Gardner, 2008), a radio station received a call from a listener who began to speak of various clues that were embedded in the work of the Beatles that all added up to the death of one very important man. The disk jockey at the time was obviously skeptical, but upon further research, he found a college thesis paper that for the most part, matched the story of the anonymous man. The radio personality went on to reveal the connections on the air basically leading to a moment of mass hysteria.…

The speaker is Steve Scoggins who is the preacher at First Baptist Church of Opelika. The setting was in a big white church with several members. We were greeted with big smiles and the church bulletin. My family and I sat in the balcony like most Sunday mornings. We sang hymns and songs and prayed the Lord’s Prayer before we heard the message. It was an early father’s day morning. The weather was beautiful with a few clouds insight. Pastor Steve spoke for about thirty minutes. The audience was full of people of all ages. It was filled with families that love the Lord. The audience was very attentive and responsive. The speaker is full of knowledge of the bible. He attended college and has a degree. He continues to study books of the bible every day. He was dressed nice wearing a button-up shirt, jacket and dress shoes. He delivered the speech in a very informative but timely manner. The message he gave the audience was full of clarity and very well organized. He stated three main points of the message and explained further in detail. Pastor Steve Scoggins told the audience personal stories and advice that everyone could relate to. He was very personable and easy to listen to. The pastor spoke to many hearts and I believe he reached out to several souls that were listening. The message was very relevant to the audience and the information given was very practical, useful, and overall informative. I enjoyed listening to the speaker and will continue watching him deliver many more message from our God, Jesus…
