From the =Beginning of Serpico’s career in the NYPD he was forced with having to defend his integrity to the police department. While a rookie taking part in field officer training, there was a rape in progress call sent out over the radio. Serpico, wanting to do nothing but help wanted to take the call though it was out of his sector and against his veteran officers advice. Frank later forced to give up his collar despite the fact he apprehended the remaining rape suspects on his own. Being a rookie officer left him susceptible to officers with seniority…

There is an obvious tangle of narrative here. Is the audience watching the footage captured by Taylor or a something else? However the mix of street slang and police code provides an insight into the person behind the badge and makes them very likeable people. This insight into their character also makes the things they do for each other and their community much more believable. The flawless acting performance by Jake Gyllenhaal (Officer Taylor) and Michael Peña (Officer Zavala) add to the movie and makes it much more plausible. The finale of the movie keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. The ending is nothing less than incredible. The climax of the movie is frank and rough, and touches the deepest parts of your heart.…
The film showed the reality of life in urban New York City during the crack epidemic. Most of what was seen in the movie was based on real life actions of various drug dealers throughout the city. Crack destroyed people’s lives and is one of the most destructive drugs ever created. This movie really showed that side of urban life.…
Becoming a police can be a good thing if you don’t abuse your power and stand by what is right instead of wrong. Many times there are good cops and then there are the corrupted cops who don’t follow the rules and pretend to have blind eyes to the crime that’s surrounding them. There is a movie named “Serpico” it is a true story about an honest New York cop Frank Serpico (Al Pacino) who didn’t believe in rampant corruption in the force and tried to rectify the corruption only to have his comrades’ turn against him.…
Throughout our lifetime we face ethical dilemmas, and in this fictional ethical dilemma the main character must decide if he’s willing obey his superior or go against his superior because he views his superior has the wrong viewpoint. The main character is Robert Jackson, and he works in his local police department. The ethical dilemma is that Officer Jackson must decide if it’s morally right to target areas, which wealthy retirees tend to live in, with tickets. His boss tries to justify it by showing how the money will benefit the community as a whole.…

Ethical issues in policing reach back to the early ages of law enforcement. The profession of policing plays a vital role in the rationale and motivation of how officers conduct themselves while on and off duty. This is a primary focus point of the society in which they work, due to the society’s level of trust and confidence in the officers to act accordingly and responsibly without any negative person vengeances or vendetta. As a result of the numerous negative encounters of officers interacting with the public, which has been mainstreamed by the media, there is a heightened sense of entitlement and false responsibility of citizens to report to higher authorities or the media when they do not get whatever it is that they want or receive the…
Confidential, a dark and twisted tale of corruption in the backdrop of Hollywood's lights, presents characters that face their own evil and seek atonement. The police force of Los Angeles reflects the troubled time of the 1950s Hollywood society where many comprise their morals in pursuit of their own personal objectives. The three protagonists are initially not heroes, but rather abuse women, take bribes and seek power. However, they are seen as L.A.'s finest-sworn to uphold the law and all three of them seek redemption bringing justice to Los Angeles.…
However this topic did change the way how I look at police officers today. Growing up I was taught that whenever there is an emergency that the police men were the ones who everyone can depend on. They help serve and protect the communities to make them a better place, almost like a super hero. Schools failed to not educate the younger generation on police brutality. Back when I was in high school I’d question what I was taught about police and my safety. Can I really trust police or not? The purpose for this essay was to choose a feature or theme present in Between the World and Me and write a literary analysis that discusses the text in terms of that feature or major theme and so I decided to choose police…
Ethical considerations could be a concern for law enforcement officers moving forward into the future. Officers obviously have a desire to be ethical and do their job with the utmost morale possible, however the dilemmas they face to catch criminals and remain as ethical as possible is difficult. Off duty behavior, brutality, and corruption are big concerns now and for the future. People who regulate the law often find themselves needing to bend or break the law. More often than not, their fellow law enforcement officers will treat them with a lighter punishment or give no punishment at all because of their association with the governing association (Writing, 2014)…
The whole movie deals with emotions and how they grow up in that environment and that reflects in next generation’s life. Their perceptions are a lot different from my culture. One thing that I felt from this movie is whatever you see from parents or elder siblings, most of the time you will follow that way and it’s also happen in my culture also. Twenty years ago at about the same time that "Cisco" and "Stingray" Santiago became leaders of the notorious Assassination gang and Luis also became a gang leader. That movie is also a great example of emotional intelligence. This movie is kind of empathetic.…
You’ve heard about it, read about it, and maybe even seen live footage on the news. What is it? Living in the United States, a lot of cases in today’s society are Police Brutality. Police Brutality remains the most critical and divisive human rights violation in the United States of America. We are supposed to trust the police to protect us, not take advantage and abuse the power, we, the people, have invested in them. The immoderate use of police brutality continues because police don’t know how to de-escalate, most cops face no disciplinary threats, and because there are no clear policies on using force. This makes it feasible for officers who do commit brutality and human rights violations to abscond their punishment and repeat their offences.…
Former New York Police Officer, Francesco Vincent “Frank,” Serpico is known for whistleblowing on police corruption during the late 1960s and early 1970s. His action led to investigation known as Knapp Commission held by Mayor John V. Lindsay to investigate the New York Police Department (Roberts, 2012). The Knapp Commission analyze their police, which results illustrate two types of corrupted law enforcement officers for either being grass-eaters or meat eaters. Researchers stated that grass eaters are taught to keep loyal to their brotherhood no matter what the situation has become, while meat-eaters are police officers who use their badge for personal gain (5 Police Corruption Scandals that Rocked New York City, 2015).…
Professor and Dean College of Police and Security Studies University of Maribor, Slovenia ABSTRACT The paper deals with the importance of police ethics and integrity in contemporary policing. It first describes the field of applied ethics in general. It explains the basis for the structure of professional moral obligations, briefly depicts the core imperatives of applied ethics and describes the process of moral reasoning. It then defines police ethics, discusses the reasons for its relative underdevelopment, and delineates its future development in three interrelated directions: (a) applying the principles of applied ethics to police profession; (b) establishing standards of ethical conduct in policing; and (c) defining the means and content of education and training in police ethics. Next, it discusses the organisational environment that is conductive to police ethics and elaborates on the concept of integrity. The paper concludes that police ethics and integrity are of critical importance in the professionalisation of policing and the best antidotes to police corruption, brutality, neglect of human rights, and other forms of police deviance.
