Introduction
Welcome to your 2nd week of Understanding Business PASS! Last week we introduced you to the PASS model and looked at Management in the context of Apple & Nokia. Today, we’ll look at information systems concepts in the context of Domino’s new in-car order system. Your main points of feedback last week were:
Heavier focus on core concepts, e.g. Business Information Systems (7 people asked for this): PASS only covers material from the previous week. Since week 1 was focused on admin, we only had a handful of concepts – this week we’ll have more.
More reading materials (3) : The focus of PASS is learning through discussion with your peers. The readings exist to spark off this discussion. That said, if you feel like you’re missing any information just let me know and we can clarify this together.
More on study techniques e.g. essay writing (2): I’ll work these in throughout the session and during closing as well.
Greater clarity on whether an answer is right (1): You’ll pick this up as you attend more sessions but I will ask students to summarise answers to questions more.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Define business process and information systems concepts
2. Application of concepts to current business issues
3. Development of written and oral business communication skills
Key concepts
1. Define the term ‘business process’ (BP). What are the 4 characteristics of well-designed business processes?
2.
