Seven Attributes Of Symptom
The seven characteristics of a symptom add significant details to the patient's history. It's the way the clinician organizes what he or she learns from the patient into a consistent picture that leads to a clinical diagnosis and a treatment plan. The disease can be defined as the way the patient experiences symptoms. Many factors can shape this experience, including previous personal or family health, the effect of symptoms on daily living, individual perspectives and coping styles, and expectations about medical care ( ).

The seven attributes of a symptoms (Bickley, 2016)
Location. Where is it? Does it radiate?
Quality. What is it like?
Quality or severity. How bad is it? (For pain. ask for a rating on a scale of 1 to 10.)
Timing. When did (does) it start? How long does it last? How often does it come?
Onset (os which symptom occurs). Include any environmental factors, personal activities, emotional reactions, or other circumstances that may have contributed to the illness.
Remitting exacerbating factors. Is there anything that makes it better or worst?
Associated manifestation. Have you noticed anything else that accompanies it?

According to Bickley (2016), as you elicit the patient’s history, you must diligently clarify the attributes of each symptoms including contact association and chronology. However, if I have to choose one attribute it would be “onset.” Onset, gives the chief complaint , the reasoning of the visit or admission to the hospital, so that we can move forward with interview and assessment. It asks question such as, What were you doing when the symptoms started? It is important to establish the sequence and time course of each of the patient’s symptoms, in order to arrive at an accurate assessments (
