A genre of music like no other, rock ‘n’ roll is a fusion of powerful rhythm and blues, jazz-influenced vocals, gospel roots (African American), lyrical melodies of recent European immigrants and country and western soul music.
Every decade, this music is being upgraded, opinionated and increasingly popular. Whether it’s Elvis Presley’s good looks, Chuck Berry’s famous duckwalk or the flamboyant costumes and makeup of Kiss, rock ‘n’ roll will be a genre of music that will live forever.
Earlier then the 1950s, youngsters did not have their own taste in music, clothes and idols, they were just younger versions of their parents. However this all changed when rock ‘n’ roll hit the streets. Artists wrote songs which they knew would influence the lives of young people and therefore, continued their fame, with the support of the youth.
Nowadays, rock ‘n’ roll has taken a new turn. Bands like AC/DC, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Slipknot prove the extreme change rock ‘n’ roll has experienced over the past few decades.
The question is; why is it when we say rockstars, we automatically think of a musician with a guitar, bottle of booze, wild clothes singing – or in some instances screaming about god knows what? The answer is simply that we see so much of this image in society today, we forget about the real reason rock ‘n’ roll is so admired.
Today rock ‘n’ roll may seem as a genre of music for the outcasts in our world. It can be seen as a way for them to be accepted by society and by other rock ‘n’ roll fans.
So rock ‘n’ roll is not really about sex, drugs or even alcohol. This image is just portrayed by the media, who make out that rockstars are bad in society. Their appearance, actions and behaviour can be considered disrespectful or disgraceful but in the end it’s about their music.
