Sex trafficking is diverse, making it hard for people to get themselves out of it. Someone could be involved with a partner who either forces them or tricks them into it. One could be offered opportunities, such as a job or money. One could be sold by their parents or guardians (“Sex” Trafficking). A person could go online to see an ad that is really a trick, apply to a fake business, get escorted by a fake escort, get taken in the street, a hotel, or rest stop. Anything could happen and once one is in there is no saying how long one will be there (“Sex” Polaris).…
The meeting started out with the person running it starting things off, and then asked if anyone wanted to share anything. There were about seven people in the meeting not including myself, and they all shared their stories and what was going on with them. I found their stories and…
The meeting started off by the advisors discussing about the new mentorship program they are promoting to the EDN students. It’s like the Athletic Mentorship program where a EDN student who passed EDN 200 becomes a mentor for a student(s) who is either a first or second-year student that has yet to complete EDN 200. The mentors would guide the mentees on any questions they have on the EDN program, Taskstream, field experience, etc., and give them advices on what they’ve learned in the past to do in the first-level courses of the program. Then one of the advisors discussed what Teach First is and welcome anybody who is a first-generation student to come to the meetings. They discuss on upcoming service opportunities the club is going to take…
I do feel that the group was very productive within the discussions. The way in which the discussions were organized I believe helped to foster this…
At first glance, it seems like a club that would not get much traction and quickly fizzle out. On the contrary, the club now meets regularly and has an academic advisor. The girl has raised awareness for the destruction of not only duck habitats, but other endangered animals. The club even has a growing number of involved members, including myself. Like this, OSU has so many unique clubs; pizza club, knitting club, etc. These clubs enrich the experience the university offers, and I hope to facilitate them as an alumnus so future students can have the one of a kind experience I am blessed to…
For as long as I can remember my mom was always telling me about all of the clubs she was in during high school. From what my understanding is and what I’ve learned is a great opportunity given to the students at Washington High School. I see NHS as a way to build character and leadership into a person, more than just grades alone. As this organization/club being student ran, it is a way of letting and showing people what the students can do on their own. This shows through how well the students influence is shown within the community and though their peers.…
Nearly 185 years later after the 13th amendment was ratified, slavery is still rampant in America. In today’s society it comes in different forms. The general term for modern day slavery is human trafficking. Human trafficking is a form of slavery in which people profit from exploiting others whether for domestic or sexual labor. It affects every country around the world, regardless of historical or political status. According to Polaris Project’s article “Human trafficking,” “The International Labor Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally, including 5.5 million children. 55% are women and girls (humantraffickingpara5).” After being raped, beaten, dehumanized and sold numerous times to complete…

Have you ever saw a girl on the street and wonder how she got there? In today’s world people are quick to criticize. No one thinks about what cause her to go down that road. The girl was forced to be sex trafficked at the age of six. Her family had to sell her due to financial reasons. Sex trafficking is real, all around us, and we don’t realize it because we don’t really understand it.…
Hey LaToya Carnahan, great post! This course taught me a lot about the different clubs. To be honest, I thought all clubs was private club, until this course taught me other wives. I am glad that I learned the different between equity club and non-equity club. Thank you for sharing your post and good luck in the future.…
At first I expected everyone to be serious and emotional about his or her stories, I was completely wrong. Everyone was laughing at each other’s stories and making funny comments. In most cases the person speaking had a funny story about when they were drunk. I was a bit confused on how people are suppose to get better from these meetings if all they do is joke around. One thing I did pick up from the meeting was…
As a feminist we envision a perfect world where being a single mom is okay even a single dad, where there is no such thing as a wage gap, where we see no domestic violence and if so, help available with measures to prevent, not only treat, and a world where women suffering from any disease can have choice and control over their body. These issues come up in Walking on Water and mostly get resolved and with help and support from their group things get better for each woman involved. This is not always the success story we hope for although support groups are a way to help. A challenge of making support groups for all women not just feminists but being able to share the feminist vision of empowerment, equal pay, and intersectionality in a way…
Human trafficking describes a variety of methods in which one person or a group of people force others to engage in activities, often against their will, that will benefit the aggressor in some way. Victims of human trafficking are regularly stripped of basic rights, and have limited freedom to act outside their aggressor’s commands. For the purpose of this paper, the sex trade will be the specific focus of human trafficking both domestically and abroad. Over the last few decades, the sex trade has become an even more profitable business than ever before, generating over a billion dollars per year. While sex trafficking happens outside the United States, US citizens are often ignorant to the fact that it occurs within the country as well. This paper will address the fact that sex trafficking is not only an issue in countries outside the US, but how it is also a domestic problem. In addition, the common ages and genders of those who are trafficked will be discussed, as well as the motives and reasoning behind the sex trade and its aggressors.…
My understanding of feminism has increased greatly due to the material and discussions in this course. When this course first started I had a small general idea of what feminism was. I always assumed it had to deal with women’s rights and movement, mostly about the African-American movements. I had no idea that feminism tied into so many different subjects throughout history and even the present day. This course also had a broad overview with many different types of readings. The readings, along with the discussions generated a more in depth view on particular topics. Although I had a general knowledge of some of the topics, other topics were completely new to me and I found them very interesting. For example, the topic about the native settlers that were forced from their native land by the Europeans, specifically about the Beothuck people of Newfoundland.…
Sex trafficking is a medium of modern slavery in which people perform commercial sex through the use of fraud, force, and coercion. It is a crime and a huge offense to the laws the U.S. has set in place as a nation. Approximately 4.5 million people are victims of this crime a year; close to 800,000 of those people reside within the U.S. borders. Men and women under the age of 18 engaging in commercial sex are considered to be victims of human trafficking, regardless of the use of force, fraud, or coercion. Sex traffickers frequently target weak, desperate, and naive victims and then use violence, threats, lies, debt bondage, or other forms of control and manipulation to keep victims involved in the sex industry for their own profit. Many of these criminals have been known to lure in their prey with acts of love or attention to the effect that some victims can remain blind to their afflictions and enslavement for long periods of time.…
