Sexism, Racism, and Homophobia Essay
Sexism, Racism, and Homophobia all have one thing in common - fear. Many people are afraid of change and being outcasted because of the outcome of it. Individuals who are like that are often close minded to new things and think with a mob mentality. People with mob mentalities are often confused as to what they believe in, they generally fear being judged by certain members of the community that can change the way others in the community perceive an individual. Some individuals know their beliefs are different from the community and fear being outcasted causing them to jump on the bandwagon of the opinion the community believes in. Individuals who can not think for themself often think with a mob mentality and follow the opinions that are widely shared upon in their community. When racism was a particularly huge deal communities would go out in huge groups to terrorize African Americans, this is an example of a mob mentality. Multiple citizens would think with a mob mentality instead of thinking for them self. Majority of people from the 1930 - 1960 era were racist, this caused non-racist people that believed in equality to act as a racist person. This was significant because those who did not believe the same things as others would pretend to dislike and even hate on African Americans because everyone else was doing it. Everyone thought in a mob mentality about African Americans instead of thinking for them self. Nowadays almost everyone is fine with African Americans except people that have been raised with an extreme hate for African Americans. Speaking of upbringing, various families still raise their children to loath people of colour. A number of people have also been influenced by specific people in their lives that have led them to believe stereotypes about people of colour. Things like racism and sexism are still alive in 2016 because people are very close minded about new changes in a new era. Until recently, homophobia was not as openly addressed in society as racism or sexism, causing homophobia to be a new type of discrimination; therefore homophobia will likely be addressed for many more generations. In conclusion, these topics are all very different, but they are very similar if thought is put into it. To conclude this essay, one should be aware that the causes of Sexism, Racism, and Homophobia relates to fear. Everyone is afraid of change whether it be good or bad. Humanity should find a way to connect with each other and be in unity instead of spreading hate and making people
