The Rosin addresses many issues in the article the biggest one begin that young middle schoolers are sexting which to me was the most surprising and least surprising fact. Considering now that every kid has a smartphone it’s not surprising to see that they would be exposed to such things but it does shock me that parents aren’t more aware that their little sixth grader is sending nudes. I believe that parents should already be on top of their kids and make sure they aren’t involved in things they shouldn’t be. I did, in fact, come from a strict household so I understand not all kids grow up that way but it still surprises me that parents don’t know what their kids are up to especially in middle school. Another issue she discussed was that kids don’t see the problems they’re getting themselves into when sexting.…
Have you seen people sharing explicit photos, videos, texts, or other media about themselves with others online, over the phone or e-mail? This is what the new age calls sexting. Smart phones coupled with easily accessible technology and media result in sexting. This is an activity that 1 in every 4 teens indulges in and a number of adults enjoy. At times it just helps relationships heal themselves or gives them a more romantic turn, or else it ruins them when sexting takes an obsessive, uncomfortable turn. Let me cite a few scenarios where sexting seems helpful or more enjoyable:…
Cyberbullying is defined as the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature (“Cyberbullying”). As stated by an anonymous girl from Illinois, "It affected me for 3-4 years...would come home and just cry. It really hurt (Hinduja, Sameer and Justin Patchin).” That type of an effect on a person shouldn’t be ignored. One of the main reasons cyberbullying should be stopped is the fact that it’s real. Secondly, the effect it has on victims is terrible. Furthermore, it should be stopped for the sake of the victims. Cyberbullying needs to be deleted.…
A concern among parents dealing with texting is this new thing called sex-ting. Sex-ting is the act of sharing nudes or partially nude photos. (Dangers of teen sex-ting , 2009)Many of the teens that participate in sex-ting want the person they sent the message to to be the only person who sees the content of the messages; however, that rarely is the case. Young teenagers that practice sex-ting have the potential to be involved in legal trouble. Although this is a major problem with texting teens, texting does benefit a teenager's everyday life. Interpersonal skills are a major thing in our everyday lives. Since teens nowadays are highly busy with school and extracurricular activities texting allows them to still communicate…
This article not only impacts the teens that were involved with the twitter account but their parents as well.…
Cyberbullying has had such a negative effect on people of all ages. It has lead to many fatal events, especially suicide. So many young people end their lives, because they have been bullied over the internet. According to CyberBullyHotline.com, "20% of kids cyberbullied think about suicide, and 1 in 10 attempt it" and "4500 kids commit suicide each year." Worst of all, the bully doesn't admit to his crime, and pretends like it never happened.…
Are we really free? As Americans, we like to think that we can do what we want. But maybe it shouldn’t be that way. Most students use texting, email, and social network sites. But some students abuse the methods and cause big problems. I am recommending that the school adopt a policy that allows the school to limit students’ online speech. There are three reasons why this is a good idea: cyberbullying is a widespread problem, it is materially disruptive, and schools have a duty to protect the civil rights of students, teachers, and administrators.…
Social media not only allows teenagers to consume information on sexual activity, but also to produce it. Cell phones, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social networking sites allow teenagers today to connect with people faster than ever before. Because of things like sexting and sending nude photos, it accelerates the connection making part of the relationship and being more intimate. It is easier for teenagers today to “hook-up” than in decades past for that reason. These behaviors have become familiar routines in the daily social life of teenagers.…
Minors who have sent sext have been charged with a felony and are forced to register as sex offenders, while teenagers receive punishment for Sexting, the extent should not be as harsh as it is. Committing the crime of Sexting is a serious thing because you are distributing child pornography. Distributing pornography can land you 5 years in a federal prison. Teens need to be aware of the permanent action they are taking when “Sexting” through technology, especially in today’s technology, because it can be forwarded to anyone on any website.…
Over the past several years, the number of people Sexting has increased while the ages of those people creating the sexually explicit images and videos have decreased. Take a look at an example provided by PEOPLE magazine in 2009: “On a typical day Ben Hunt and his best friend John Eicher, both 14, send each other about a dozen routine text messages. But on Jan. 15, while at school, Hunt sent Eicher something on his cell phone that suddenly put their futures in peril: a photo of a girl in their class exposing a breast. Eicher didn‟t see it as a big deal.…
Sexting seems to be the new “cool” trend among teenagers no in days. Sexting is when someone either sends an explicit pictures or texts someone over the top sex oriented text messages. Teens are sexting and sending explicit pictures to their boyfriends or girlfriend and expect them to keep it to themselves. They do not think about the risks of doing so. There young teens do nit think about the consequences behind this action. Teenagers should not be allowed to send nude pictures or sext until the age of 18 because young teens are more prone to peer pressure, insecurities and they do not have the same privileges as an 18 year old.…
When a child is being cyberbullied online, should the cyberbully be prosecuted? Definitely, because they would have been violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. The person being bullied or harassed may get seriously hurt mentally and physically. Cyberbullying can also hurt the one being bullied brain. If the Prosecution act is put in place it can also prevent people in the future to stop cyberbullying because they would not want to be prosecuted.…
Social media could probably be destroying the lives of girls and possibly of boys too. To better explain myself sexting is when a person sexually send you explicit messages, photographs, or Images (pearson 802). Teens who are being engaged in sexting are threatened or charged with felony child pornography. Another consequence is getting suspended from school for perpetrators and emotional distress with accompanying mental health conditions for victims. In many circumstances sexting incidents are shared with many groups of friends.…
Cyberbullying is widely recognized as a major issue in the United States and, when applied to teens and adolescents, is often credited as a major factor of Internet-related suicides. Although cyberbullying is the broader term applied to suicides caused by cruel comments online, the more specific term would more often than not be suicide baiting, which is exactly what it sounds like: taunting and coercing and pushing someone into suicide. In her article “Twitter Trolls and the Refusal to Be Silenced,” Myisha Cherry provides one of the most classic example of a suicide bait message – “‘kill yourself before I do’” (Cherry 222). Suicide baiting is a disappointingly frequent occurrence and the current preventative measures that are in place aren’t…
The definition of sexting, is the sending or receiving of nude pictures of a minor via technology (Capeless “Sexting”). Specialists say it is child pornography, and should be dealt with as such. Other specialists say it is “the latest fad” and will eventually die down. So it continues as undecided what society should consider it as. What is for sure though is how it is affecting today’s youth. Some are referring to it as the “silent social danger”. Not knowing and being unaware of what and whom, has some people concerned. Teens, young adults, parents, and specialists, do not fully understand what all is at risk, and how truly harmful it can really be.…
