Sexy Liquid Plumr Quickie Analysis
Every girl has had a fantasy of a hunky man. Why not manipulate that fantasy to promote your product? Clorox goes beyond expectations with their commercial and can be considered disrespectful and demeaning to some women. The “Sexy Liquid-Plumr Quickie” add might be inappropriate for TV but it keeps the viewers watching. It achieves its intended aim by using sexual puns and hunky men to target women while promoting their product at the same time.

To begin with, Liquid-Plumr is a drain cleaning product that gets rid of tough clogs. According to Clorox (n.d.), Liquid-Plumr Urgent Clear, a powerful gel drain cleaner, is designed to clean the toughest clogs in just 7 minutes.it quickly works on hair, gunk, grease and soap scum, cleaning standing-water

The agency found out exactly how much in focus groups during which participants were instructed to write letters to clogs to express their emotions. “These letters were pretty harsh,” according to DDB creative director/art director Dustin Smith, who noted that the women lashed out at the clogs for being gross, disgusting and frustrating and lamented the interruptions clogs cause in their daily routines. 48(15), 10.
They realized that it was mostly women that were having issues with these clogs and by the looks of it, it seemed to be single women who were getting ready to go on a night out. Now that they knew who their target was they had to figure out how to get their attention. They came to the conclusion that sex sells and they decided to use hunky men.     The commercial starts off with a once popular catch phrase coined by Enzyte: “Meet Bob.” There is no mistaking that Bob is a happy man, given that throughout the commercial, his facial expression is occupied by a painfully awkward smile.     Women were overrepresented in advertisements for cosmetics and were less likely to appear in advertisements for cars, trucks and related products. Seventy-five percent of all advertisements using women were for products found in the kitchen or bathroom, reinforcing the stereotype that a woman’s place is in the home.
