The book Night, was written by Elie Wiesel. He was held hostage at a concentration camp for 15 years. Elie had a strong bond with his father, but it changed throughout the story. After being a “slave” for a long time changed him. I’m going to tell you how.…
Definitely, my most memorable shadowing experience. Although the 12-hour shift was at night, the ongoings on the Trauma Center keeps everyone on their toes. Nurses, radiologists, surgeons, even policemen all worked together on various cases. The most severe of the night was of a young man whose femur broke in half after being knocked by a vehicle while running away with a stolen bike. Having being present while the orthopedist straightened his leg with only local anesthesia was definitely an impressive moment. My first gunshot wound was seen and I observed a surgery where a large pus-filled abscess had to be cleaned from a diabetic patient. The dreaded fear of burnt flesh was…
Prior to attending my placement I was both intrigued and apprehensive with regards to the purpose of the unit and the work carried out there. I had previously never experienced this kind of environment so was eager to familiarise myself with the purpose and philosophy of the setting. The situation gave me an opportunity to be able to…
Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

One air inhalation hazard I observed during the Mirror Lab tour was for rhodite 906. In a large open room and workspace, the mirror lab utilized rhodite frequently to polish large new mirrors. This is concerning because this is a hazardous dust particle with its particle size at about 1.5 micrometers. The movement of these particles are heighted by water mist placed above the mirror to keep the rhodite from solidifying. The employees also sprayed down the mirror frequently which further caused these particles to move around. When we were walking beneath and to the side of the mirror, orange rhodite compound could be seen on the sides of the mirror as well as the ground. The employer’s job was to make sure the mirror was properly and consistently being polished.…
I job shadowed at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. I went to the hospital around 7 in the morning. I met Jana and she explained to me what we were going to be doing. We started off by taking a tour of the hospital. She showed me each floor and what its purpose was. We then went to the department she was assigned. She introduced me to some of her patients.…
This fil was a very graphic depiction of how life is in solitary confinement. There were many things that shocked me that I did not expect at all. One of those things was how often these inmates will turn to self harm just so they can get some form of human attention. Another thing that surprised me was how much the inmates misbehaved. How they would flood their cells, cover their windows, throw their feces and everything in-between.…
I initially presumed that taking medical history and performing physical assessment on standardized patients during simulation would be easy tasks to complete. I have been exposed to a similar simulation before and have first-hand experience and knowledge about history and physical assessment. I learned a great deal about my interaction with the standardized patients, which could reflect my connection with my real patients at work.…
Although I wanted to hear that I had been accepted to the program, I was also prepared to be rejected. However, I had not imagined the possibility of being waitlisted once more. In 2015, I applied to MED while I was still in college hoping to spend a summer learning about the dedication required to succeed in medical school. I was waitlisted and the spot for me was never created. Fast forward two years into the present and I have found myself in the same position. The program is the same, but my experience is utterly different in a variety of ways this year. Over the past two years I have had invaluable experiences that have solidified my resolve to attend medical school.…
He was a nice and fun guy and I learned a lot about IT. This has helped in my decision for what I want to be when I grow up. This is a very good program for any student wanting to know more about what they want to be or a certain job they have in mind. I might also do another job shadow just to learn about other jobs I…
