Shane, The Lone Ethnography Summary
Shane, The Lone Ethnographer is an introduction to ethnography. In just a few short lines, the author has told us about the genre, setting, and main character of this novel. The author walks the reader through the process of doing ethnographic research. This book is basically a collection of comics explaing what a ethnographer does step by step. The author of the book is playing a cartoon character name Shane who is about to graduate from college. Her last assignment in class has to do with a research project about Ethnography and how she learns how to read, sort, code, write, and assess the analysis of a qualitative study in the traditions of ethnography. In the book, Shane, The Lone Ethnographer, on page 105 it talks about the A-Zs of the field’s terminology. Since I have never studied nor conducted an official ethnographic research project and have never taken an anthropology course until now of course, this was a good explanation to the history of ethnographic studies. Throughout the chapters, Shane receives helpful advice from experienced researchers who explain their analytic practices in detail. For one, instead of a regular college textbook, we get to read fun and exciting comics and still grasp the information. When i finished reading this book, i was happy that we didnt have to do one of these research projects because i dont think i go through with it. Even though their was alot of useful information, it was too much information. I got bored halfway through the book wanting it to be over because my attention span was done. I thought i was going to enjoy this but instead i rather read an regular textbook. I feel like i would of understand it more. Some chapters, i couldn't understand what they were saying cause the handwriting was

For my ethnography paper I have decided to sit and observe the Chubby's restaurant located on 38th and Pecos. The place is always packed with people, whether its two in the afternoon or two in the morning. With that being said, I can easily observe hundred of clientele with hundreds of different attitudes and characteristics. North Denver has a notorious history, is rich in culture, holds thousands of stories and Chubby's happens to be at the center of it all, I would like to convey this with more detail in my ethnography paper. Chubby's has been around for almost 50 years, its almost like a monument of the North Side and its only right that I write this paper.…

Although at times it was hard to follow what was exactly happening in the book. I felt like the book jumped around a lot because each chapter was a different event that happened throughout the year. I didn’t know when the events occurred so at times it was confusing. In addition, the book was older so it was hard to make connections with the book and my everyday life.…

To add some positively to The Longman Reader I can say some important facts that they gave in the chapter are easy steps, but some people might not have known those. Other than that it shows us how we can look at books multiple ways. Not just one way. I like how this book has labeled sections in each of the chapters,…

The Mexican culture is a very distinct culture. Over the break I was fortunate enough to visit Tijuana, Mexico and analyze the cultural differences represented at the border. The way that I traveled to Mexico was by walking across the border at the San Diego/Tijuana joint border location. In doing so I was able to actively participate and evaluate the cultural clashes and intensification in this border “society” environment.…

The first few weeks were focused on learning about each class mate as well as learning about different audiences for different situations. An assignment that was assigned to the class was that everyone needed to get on the internet and research about people that were affected by different horrible situations, such as drugs, alcohol, women that worked “the corner” for money and many other reasons. While looking through the pictures of each person, we were to right a short summary about a person that was interesting. One person that stood out is “Takeesha 3- is a prostitute and is a mother and she is happy with the way things are she says it is what it is” (DeShazo #10) This woman stated that she knew what she had done and was really okay with the way it was. Also, another assignment completely opposite of this assignment was “Fish Cheeks.” This is a story written by Amy Tan about a girl that is Chinese and has a crush on an American boy and is ashamed of her culture. An example is “Because she is the opposite of him and does not know what he will think of her family.” (DeShazo #1 Fish Cheeks) This girl was ashamed of her culture and soon realized after the dinner was over that her mother was trying to make things better for her by cooking…

Arriving at the Jehovah’s Witness meeting I was very nervous about what was to come. I knew that nothing radical was going to happen, there was going to be now speaking in tongues, or dramatic rituals, but because I knew I was entering into a different belief something just did not feel right. Although the feeling of the meeting was not exactly comfortable, I learned a lot from my observations. On Thursday March 21, 2013 I attended a Bible study and theocratic ministry session at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Marion.…

For the first time in my entire life I was understanding in a new level what was happening in the book. I was playing the scenes out in my head and actually enjoying the read. I saw the horse running through the fields, big and muscular. I imagined a below average size boy taming and training the ginormous creature. It all finally came together. I was overjoyed at the end of the book and I was ready for another exhilarating read. After this it took me a while to find another book that could match up to the previous one. But after a while I found a few more books that gave me the same exciting…
