Subject: Benefits of Fitness Centre

Considering that you wish to close the Fitness Centre, I have listed out a few reasons which support my position of keeping the fitness centre open. I understand your concerns about cost and utilisation and have based my recommendations taking them into account. I recommend that we keep the fitness centre open for use, specifying time slots and days for employees to use it. The company can also use the centre for alternate purposes during the idle hours. It may also choose to rent out the space to external agencies.

I believe that the fitness centre should be kept running as I feel there has been an increase in the energy and productivity of those in my department who regularly use it. The wellness program that I have started in my department to promote the usage of the centre also engages them in team building activities which has improved the productivity by 18 per cent and the level of absenteeism has reduced. There has also been significant reduction of medical costs of the regular users of the fitness centre. The concern about the centre is that it is too expensive to operate as the salaries of fitness centre staff and the maintenance of machines expenses is around $1,00,000 a year and the number of users of the centre do not justify the expenses. The records show that 35 per cent use the facility out of which only 10 per cent are frequent users. We have an option to chare gym fees, allocate time slots and day-wise restrictions for employees. Additionally, the company can use the facility for alternative

The Cost-Volume-Profit analysis (CVP) for Snap Fitness provides an evaluation of its profits as costs and volume changes. As the owner of a Snap Fitness franchise, decisions about selling prices, product mix, and maximizing the use of the fitness center depends on CVP. A CVP analysis classifies cost as variable and fixed, and calculates a contribution margin. Relevant information identified in the analysis is the total monthly fixed costs of Snap Fitness, which are $6,000. Monthly fixed operating costs are $4,000 and monthly lease equipment costs are $2,000. The fitness center charges $26 as a monthly fee with no annual contract and management needs to retain 300 members to break-even.…

    2. In the past, the medical center aggregated all facility costs and then allocated the total amount on the basis of square footage. This methodology assigned an average cost rate to each patient service department, regardless of whether its space is new or old, or prime or poor. The proposed allocation for the Dialysis Center, on the other hand, requires it to bear the true facility costs of its new space. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the new methodology? Do you support the new allocation scheme?…

Using the data and your economic knowledge, evaluate different economic policies that could be used to encourage schoolchildren to undertake more exercise. (25 marks) Exercise is a merit good, which means the government feels that people will under-consume. Exercise is socially desirable and is under provided as the market mechanism allocates fewer resources to the supply of exercise due to the positive externalities. In order to encourage the schoolchildren the possible policies that the government could increase the consumption of exercise would be to offer subsidies on exercise related products, provision of information about the benefits of exercising and the cash incentives.…

Although the option may lead the Fitness Director to wait for another year, it will not influence much on the current external users. The current users don’t know about our plan of re-furbishing. So even if the plan were to be delayed, the users would not complain much on it. Also this option would not be impactful on specific groups compare to other options. The options of cancel Saturday and Sunday morning hours as well as close the entire building at 6 pm on Fridays would influence faculty, staff, graduate students, first and second year students as well as international students. Also, postpone the re-furbishing doesn’t take away any service that the current users have. They won’t experience some change under this option.…

In evaluating the alternatives we determine the adequacy of the alternatives that have been generated. More advertising would provide a larger customer base especially for the slow periods in turn increasing profits, but it may not be an adequate solution because of the company’s position of operating expenses; however it could increase profits by luring in more customers especially during times when capacity is low. Offering incentives to customers is an option that could provide more customers that otherwise would not have visited the business. Using the extra space of the bowling alley as a rental for special events especially during slow hours could provide a potential profit in space that would otherwise go unused. Closing the business during slow hours would be a very viable option because it would save on operating costs and in turn increase the profits. Testing the market with this business could also be an option, although the profit pool has not been desirable, the business seems to be established which could be very attractive to potential buyers. It would at least be worth a look to see what kind of profit margin could be reached with a sell.…

The summer, a time of warm weather, long weekends, friends and holidays. It is also the time where many of us put down the junk food, get off the couch and come out of winter hibernation to enjoy the outdoors. It’s often not long after playing your first game of beach volleyball or running to catch the bus when you realise that your heart is racing, sweat is pouring down your face and you are breathing heavily. As you look up and watch everyone still running around you or as your stepping onto the bus only one thought is running through your mind “WOW I am out of shape!”. Now I am not here today to try and convince you to get into better shape. Starting a fitness routine is a commitment that an individual needs to decide on for themselves when the time is right for them. It is at this time when many people have the same debate, do you shell out the money for a gym membership? or do you invest in a home gym? My goal today is to persuade you so when or if you do decide to start a fitness routine you will choose to or at least consider the benefits of purchasing a gym membership over investing in a home gym. I believe this can be done by examining what many people think are the benefits of investing in a home gym. Which are saving money, convenience, and not having to deal with other members. After looking at these three points it will become clear that not all of them are completely true and joining a gym can satisfy these needs just as well if not better.…

At ISI, there is a lot of space that didn’t use for anything and the facility in our school is not very well developed. I know ISI is a small school that doesn’t need a perfect condition for every student, but at lest we need to build a well-done sports system. For example, the only gym in our school is black well. In black well, there is poor requirement, very little room that cannot be used for exercises. There are only three drinking machines in the gym, and two of them did not work at all until last semester and nobody fixed them, which is terrible!!! Also, there are so many classrooms in the gym, when some people have athletics or big activities in the gym, it will influence and noise the students who are studying in the classroom. Besides, there is lots of space that was not used effectively. It looks like a farmer field sometimes because there are a lot of ducks on the grass everyday for their foraging, should the school field be used to cultivate wild ducks? Many of the field can be used to build sports field such as tennis field and inside swimming…
