King thoughts on the article: “Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance” And Language Style Matching There are many forms of communication and even more ways of one’s comprehension within a conversation. The article, “Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance” (Bower, 2010) speaks about conversation and the impact it has or can have in one’s relationship and/ or friendship. The article talks about a variety of studies done such as speed dating…. Within that experiment, they found that “opposite – sex are more likely to express mutual interest when using similar speaking styles than those who differ.” (Bower, 2010) “Another study showed that young couples in a committed relationship, whom used similar writing styles during 10 days of instant – messaging chats, we're likely to stay together.” (Bower, 2010) Paul Taylor of Lancaster University stated “if you just click with somebody but can’t put a finger on why, there’s a fair chance that high language-style matching is going on.” (Taylor 2010) (Bower, 2010). Although the article has established the importance of one’s compatibility and language – style within a relationship when it comes to communication, it fails to explore the other options in which one may be compatible to another such as:
Their same interest in music
What books they like to read
Their hobbies
Restaurants they like to eat at
Movies they like to watch
The hardships they had to overcome
Their upbringing
Alternatively, something as simple as a physical attraction
On a personal note, compatibility of one to another consists of one’s personal interest
And/or preferences, spirituality and the love for oneself.
