Most people are afraid of sharks and don’t want anything to do with them but there are people that actually know things about sharks and don’t fear them. Sharks much like people come in all different shapes and sizes and can and do live mainly everywhere. What people don’t know is that sharks are much like people they take care of their young by protecting them, feeding them, teaching them to hunt. They are thought of as cold-blooded killers but they aren’t they just do what they have to do to survive they hunt to eat they can’t go to a grocery store and buy food they have to hunt for it they will eat what they
can. Some people think all they do is eat but 66 pounds of meat can last a 1 ton shark 6 weeks.
Sharks are part of the fish family and have rays as a cousin. Like all fish sharks have gills but they have 5 they are related to fish but their design is a bit different than that of a fish. The side fins of a shark are called the pectoral fins they are used to help guide them while swimming. The fin on top of the shark is called the first dorsal fin it is used to help steer the shark while swimming. They small fin behind the first dorsal fin is the second dorsal fin it also helps steer the shark. The small fin on the bottom of the shark is called the pelvic fin. The tailfin is made up of both an upper and lower lobe. People think that sharks have black dead eyes but they have eyelids they are the only fish to have eyelids. Sharks have eyelids over their eyes most of the time but they can also see at the same time because the eyelids are see through only to the shark this helps protect them from any oil spills or other sharks attacking. When sharks lay eggs they are laid in an egg sack when the baby shark comes out of the egg sack the sack is normally washed ashore they are called mermaids purses.
