The fast food industry preys on children so they can convince the parents to purchase the product, and most foods are very unhealthy. One out of four people in the United States are obese. Advertisements are customizing children to live unhealthy lifestyles by constantly eating these unhealthy foods and developing unethical consumption.
In Source D, Cathy Wilcox cartoon is of an obese child convincing her mother to buy her the tasty snacks that are being advertised. The Little girl tries to convince her mother “see Mum? Normal people get to eat those tasty snacks five times an hour…” . The poor child is being brainwashed by the advertisements and thinks it okay to eat a highly unhealthy snack in an unhealthy amount of times.
Parents however neglect to tell their child “no” because they have also been accustomed to the advertisements, also children have a way with parents and if a child repeatedly convinces the parents then why would they say no. Advertising is brainwashing our society to think it is okay to repeatedly eat unhealthy amounts of an unhealthy product. The little girl in Source D has grown to believe that it is “normal” to eat unhealthy foods five times an hour. Children do not think of the bad, a child is still developing and not understanding the world for its true nature. Businesses will exploit children to earn as much as possible from them. Brands like Gogurt and McDonalds make their product as fun as possible for kids to convince their parents to buy them the food. Gogurts advertisements is solely based on how fun and tasty the yogurt is, but fails to mention the nutritional value in them. Gogurt like many other brands want children to eat as much as possible of their product because the more they eat the more cash the brand
