Having solved various crimes, his arrogance may not have been inevitable. His audacious behavior is being portrayed throughout various short stories. As Holmes tells Watson in A Scandal in Bohemia, “Wedlock suits you,” “I think Watson, that you have put on seven and a half pounds since I saw you”(pg.6), I believe that Holmes was left in a fit of pique. Even though Holmes gladly accepts Watson in the ongoing investigation, he shows no interest towards Watson’s marriage. In fact, he does not even question Watson about his wife. This shows of his lack of interest towards others, which shows of his ignorance and his arrogant behavior towards other due to his only interest in solving mysteries. In addition, another quote from A Scandal in Bohemia, “Quite so! You have not observed. And yet you have seen. That is just my point. Now, I know that there are seventeen steps, because I have both seen and observed.
