Sherman Alexie's Argumentative Essay

Throughout the story, Jackson is embodying his own statement that "Indians are great storytellers."(Sherman, 2003). He struggles to support his own identity in regards to his "Indian-ness" without falling into the group of categorizing. Jackson is comfortable making statements similar to "it's an Indian thing," (Sherman, 2003) while also being able to explaining the cultural differences between Indian tribes. The story has a modest structure and a slightly predictable outcome, but Alexie relies on the strength of Jackson's character to pull the reader along on his journey.
