Shi Pei Pu was a Chinese opera singer who disguised himself as a woman. He indulged in a 20-year long romantic affair with French diplomat Bernard Boursicot convincing him that he was a woman and even presented him with their child later. Boursicot was an accountant at the French embassy and passed along confidential documents to help Pu win the favor of the Chinese Communist Party.
