B.1 GENERAL
All excavation to foundation, etc. shall be to the full depth shown on the drawing and in accordance with Section 2 “Excavator” of the General Specification for Building Works.
All excavation shall be approved by the Engineer before concreting is carried out.
B.2 COMPACTION
The bottom of all excavation after being trimmed and levelled shall be well rammed and compacted to provide a good solid formation. Wherever the excavated surface has been displaced by traffic or has become softened or otherwise deteriorated under the action of ponded water or by any other cause, the Contractor shall make good the formation by excavating and removing the soil at such places down to a stable formation and then fill with approved filling properly compacted up to the specified level. The Contractor shall not be entitled to extra payment for such work.
B.3 HARCORE Where compacted hardcore is specified, it shall be carried out according to Clause Section 2 (Excavator) of the General Specification for Building Works.
C. CONCRETOR
C.1 CONCRETE
Unless otherwise specified on the Drawing, concrete for all reinforced concrete works shall be of Class “B” (1:2:4 mix) giving a minimum strength of 3000 lb/sq in. at 28 days, except for columns and pile caps where Class “A” (1 : 1½ : 3 mix) shall be used giving a minimum strength of 3750 lb./sq in. at 28 days.
Lean (unreinforced) concrete shall be of Class “C” (1 : 3 : 6 mix) giving a minimum strength of 1650 lb. per sq. in. at 28 days.
C.2 CEMENT
Cement for concrete shall comply with the Specification under Section 3 (Concretor) of the General Specification for Building Works.
C.3 AGGREGATE
Aggregate for concrete shall comply with the Specifications under Section 3 (Concretor) of the General Specification for Building Works.
C.4 STEEL REINFORCEMENT
Steel bars for reinforced concrete works shall comply with B.S. 4449:1978 (1984). Fabric reinforcement shall comply with B.S. 4483:1969. If requested
