Growing up, our parents taught us to care for us and teach us about life. Whether it be potty training or how to throw a ball, but one thing is for sure, from the moment we can understand emotions we are taught what is right and what is wrong. When we are infants and learning about the many shapes and colorful things around us we are told no when trying to put something potentially harmful into our mouths and praised when we take our first steps and our first potty break. And as we get older the right and wrongs of life become more and more complex and more consequences. However, the one wrong that parents most readily take action on is theft of any kind. Robbery and theft are one of the most common of crimes amongst children, adolescents, and even adults. Shoplifting, being a crime that is mainly the outcome of committing theft of any nature, is an action that is shameful and considered to be wrong even from the times of our ancestors.
Shoplifting or larceny is defined as the theft of merchandise from a business with the intent to deprive revenue permanently. Every state has their own laws to protect businesses and uphold the common thief to the consequences of their actions. Every state defers in laws to protect the stores rights but there is only one thing a person has to do to commit the offense. That is concealment; concealing even one item in any store will qualify anyone as a shoplifter. There are many tools that stores use to detect and deter theft.
I myself was recently caught shoplifting and now I have to face the consequences for the bad mistake I made. The temptation of not paying for something or not having enough money is the main factor in why people steal. The shoplifter thinks that they are getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's really doing to himself and the community.
