In Those Shoes: The Spiderman Sneakers
"Mom?! I’m home." Kendall shut the front door behind him, looking down to his feet at his brand-new pair of Spiderman sneakers. His eyes lit up and his lips crinkled into a smile as the shoes glowed with every step he took. They had caught his attention the second he laid his eyes on them with his other mom at the department store.
"Kendall?" Kendall followed the booming voice toward the kitchen.
Little Kendall made his way to see his mother Hannah scavenge through the kitchen cabinets in a panic.
"Kendall, have you seen the scissors?!”

Silence. She tugged again, this time, tighter and her hair slipped right through her fingertips, letting it fall onto the countertop. Time passed and snippets later, the woman before Kendall was no longer someone he could recognize as Mom. Her eyes gleamed with excitement as she looked down at the younger boy.
She grabbed Kendall and placed him down on the countertop. Taking a piece his black hair into her hand, she chopped it off. With one incision done and many more to go, Hannah continued to shorten Kendall’s hair. Soon, the two looked more alike than ever. From their already similar facial features to their matching jagged hair, Kendall looked like a spitting image of his mother.
Kendall turned his head away from his reflection in the mirror as he heard the front door open and close. He ran out the bathroom and to the tall figure who stood in front of it, his working mother Veronica. Veronica kneeled down to hug her son, when the smile on her face faded and her eyes filled with worry.
“Ken… what happened to your hair?”
Kendall grinned even larger. “You like it? Mom did it.”
