In the short Story The Love Of My Life, the author Boyle presents us to a couple, China and Jeremy, so young and so in love, that they are blinded by it. Boyle made me as if I felt the couples love through his words and the pain they felt along the ride, but the love never failed and it was that, that caught my attention the most; Besides the fact that I am a sucker for love stories and although it ended tragic, it made an interesting plot. In the beginning, China and Jeremy were the perfect couple; Happy, in love, careless, grateful, good grades, a good life, no distraction. China’s studies were so important to her, an intelligent young lady with a bright future and Jeremy the same. Both would graduate in the top ten percent of their class. The bright future, the good grades, the top ten percent of their class was useless because intelligence doesn’t prepare you for life and that’s not something Jeremy and China were aware of. The part that I didn’t understand was, if she didn’t want it, if he told her to “get rid of it”, why go through the pregnancy, why give birth to “get rid of it”. I felt so frustrated when he told her to get rid of it because abortion isn’t something I like to agree with and when she ignored him, I thought it was because she had something else in mind; to keep it and learn from a mistakes, but I was wrong. I felt disgusted by the both of them, because of his actions and her regret for the life she brought into the world, because they didn’t want to live up to their consequences and because they wanted to be selfish. the only thing that kept me sane was their love because through the hurt they were still there for one another until she decided to testify against him and that’s what broke my heart the most.
