“ . .the Time Traveler hated to have servants waiting at dinner. . .” (Wells 17) There are a lot of class issues in 1890s London, and the world seems to be clueless about them. More importantly the lower class doesn't see where they are going. This shortsightedness is what will turn the lower class into Morlocks. As the time traveler travels into the future he learns about the war, and how the Earth has changed. People fled underground, and now that the earth is liveable again the upper class rise from the underground to repopulate the earth. The lower class stays underground working, and the two classes become more and more unrelated. The upper class demonstrates a lot of arrogance by not helping the lower class rise above with them. It's common for people to only think of themselves, and this is one of humanity's flaws they don't see the essence of life and what really matters. Although the time traveler is incredibly smart he doesn't seem to think much of those around him for instance when he travels in time he doesn't say goodbye to anyone. This leaves his friends and loved ones worrying about him and where is has gone. The time traveler is also capable of time travel, and the possibilities of good that can be done with the power of time and endless. Instead of saving lives he uses it for his thirst of knowledge. Knowledge can be a harmful thing, and when he travels to the future one can see this. The time traveler makes a fire, and fire is a symbol of knowledge yet the Eloi have never seen it. The fire causes much pain for the time traveler and those around him. The fire starts to spread and creates a forest fire, and the fire ends up killing Winna. The death of Winna changes the time traveler. The time traveler becomes less shortsighted and sees what must be done to save mankind. He first travels back to his time to see if he can stop the problem before it happens but he learns that they will not listen to him. He travels back to the future to obtain more concrete evidence but he never returns. He never returns because he knows there is no hope in his time, and he must save and teach the Eloi in order to save
