First, is how distracting a cell phone can be. The student can constantly be on their phones at all times if phones were allowed in class. Whether this is being on social media or texting is irrelevant because it causes the student to lose all focus on the lesson. According to Pew Research, 71% of teen with phones use social media up to 4-7 hours a day. 23% of these teens use social media during school. After a student has become unfocused it takes up to 15 minutes for them to get back on track with what is going on in the classroom. Texting is the same concept …show more content…
because it takes little to no time to open up the phone and check to see what’s going on. I personally have seen many students do it in multiple classes, and afterwards they often asks students around them for answers.Student’s grades can begin to plummet when everything they do in the classroom is centered around their phones. Phones can cause a distraction for the students’ education.
Secondly, students can cheat very easily with a cellular device. 64% of students have cheated on a test or homework with their phones. Having such easy access to Google and other search engines allows students to occasionally look up answers to homework and test in the middle of class. Since the school would not be able to block the inappropriate websites, students could use any tool or resource to cheat. Cheating does not help the student, teacher, or school as a whole. When tests come and students can’t have their cell phones out, it diminishes what they learned during the unit because they searched all the answers. Teachers can see test grades drop and know that the student cheated their way through the unit. Cheating can harm the student’s learning and grade during the school year.
Lastly, having a cell phone in class can cause cyber bullying to spread faster.
With many students having phones they can get information at a blazing fast rate. Rumors can spread and feelings can be hurt in school. This has happened to countless number of kids outside of school, but if phones were allowed in class, any student could become a target. 52% of teens admit to being cyber bullied, some of these kids have committed suicide because of what other students said or did to them. Cell phones can ultimately cause cyber bullying to spread faster.
In conclusion, cell phones are a great source of reliable technology and every person should have a chance to have one. But when it comes to education, they should be nowhere near a classroom setting. School is a place for kids to learn and further their education. Cell phones should not be allowed in school because they can be very distracting, very easy to cheat with, and allow bullying to spread
faster.
