Should Children Watch a Lot Tv?
Should children watch a lot TV?

I think children should not watch a lot of TV.

Though TV in moderation can be a good educator as there are a lot of good educational programs which help children to learn the alphabet, numbers, about wildlife, time spending in front of TV should be supervised and limited depending on the age of child.

To begin with, unlimited time spending on watching TV has negative influence on children health: less physical outdoor activities, sore eyes. A lot of children also fall into a bad habit of eating while watching television.

Secondly, watching TV is a passive learning: a mind is not challenged, no creativity or using imagination. A child simply receives the proceeded information.

Thirdly, nowadays TV is full of violence. A child can’t see the difference between reality and fantasy and he is more likely to imitate what he sees. It also can cause confusion for a child in difference between what is right and what is wrong. “A bad guy” is a hero who often doesn’t take any responsibility and not always punished for his actions.

Also, spending a lot of time in front of TV doesn’t help children to develop or improve their communication skills. They less interact with friends, family. It also “steals” time from developing hobbies, improving reading skills,

Watching too much TV can lead to loss of ability to concentrate. Children get bored by real life where they need to apply efforts to concentrate on what they see and hear, think and analyze the received information. So, they prefer to watch TV because they can make a pause, rewind or skip the episodes they find boring.

For mentioned above reasons, I think it is important to monitor how much time a child spends in front of TV and be aware of what programs their children

This argument is not to say that television is wrong altogether. This argument is for the opposite. The argument is to point out the importance of balance in the brain for educational purposes. In order to remain a sentient thinker, one must keep the balance strong and exercised. This is done in order to avoid a world of passivism; our minds must be active and thinking at all times. We must transcend the cultural norm to act upon the change needed in society and the world. Do not feed upon the passive narcissism that cultivates a self-centered society, but become a sentient reader and transcend the cultural…

These days just about every household owns a TV. There are many programs for children on the TV and we may think that it is harmless for a child to watch TV because they are “educational” or what not. True, some shows can teach your child some beneficial things such as learning to count or the alphabet, yet if a child is watching too much TV how can this impact the way children interact? And how much do you think is too much TV watching? Well according to the website (Kids Health from Neumors) they say : “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under 2 years old not watch any TV and that those older than 2 watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day of quality programming.” We may think, well why this is when the kid is under 2 years of age how can it have an effect on them. Well the website (Kids Health from Neumors) they mention “The first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” I personally have noticed that kids in this day and age play less outdoors and when I was a child I always wanted to go play outside and use my imagination to create my own adventures. Now I see many parents struggle to get their kids to go outside and play. I notice many kids are addicted to watching TV or even more so be stuck on playing video games. According to (CNN.com) “ when you consider that more time is spent in front of a television means less time spent on homework or having stimulating interactions with adults or other children. In addition, late-night TV watching tires kids out so that they can't pay attention in school. Also, television hands kids all the answers, promoting passive learning and short attention spans. As a result, kids have difficulty concentrating and working hard to solve a problem.”…

On the other hand, television programs have also positive things. There are learning shows and history shows that are educational content. My one year old baby loves to watch baby Einstein, and Elmo, in my opinion she learns the ABCs and the numbers with this program. Since she gets entertained by these programs, I take advantage of doing my chores at home. Little kids build a strong relationship that parents can control while they are growing up. I remember my father had a “parental control” for our TV, this choice can lock those programs that parents believe aren’t educational for their children. Now days, this a perfect strategy parents have so they can control what their children watch and the times they watch it.…
