Should College Students be required to take Placement testing…?
College students should not have to take the placement test in order to attend the college they wish to get accepted too. Some schools don’t require them but majority of them do. Technical colleges are more likely to rely on the placement testing more so than universities; because universities pay more attention to the students recent high school grades, attendance, the student status, GPA, and their SAT or ACT scores. When students take the placement test it places students in the classes that are recommended for spring, fall, or summer semesters. Students assumed the test was something that shows students where they stand at and what they should take; yet not what they had to take. From survey most students that took the placement test for the first time rushed and guess on the majority of the test; students don’t take this test serious. I asked a student how they did on placement, what were their scores, and their response was that instead scoring high in English their strongest subject they score low and high in their weakest subject. That shows me that either their test is format uniquely or that student chose any answer. Then the student went back 3 times afterwards and no improvement was shown so they were placed in lower classes than they should be. Why doesn’t the college look at their grades from high school and compare? Then on the day of student orientation they try to register for certain classes in order to get in phase 1 of their major and couldn’t and was told that they have to be place in those classes their recommended. Just didn’t sound true; so they ask somebody about it that’s when the student was showed it was a regulation of the school. What is that to say to a student? Why can’t they choose their own classes? Shouldn’t they have a chance 1st then if they don’t meet requirements then they are necessary to take
