Should Competitive Eating Be Banned?
Millions of people gather to endure an annual eating competition where the wish to seek who will be able to finish the most food and take home the prize. While on the other side of this scene competitors try there hardest preparing to guzzle more food than they have ever attempted, in hope to avoid injuries. Between these point of views people debate whether we should allow these potentially, dangerous competitions to carry on or, stop them. According to articles “Competitive Eating: How Safe is It?” by Richard Sine, “Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Title Contest Earns SICK Award” by the Physicians Committee, and “Should Competitive Eating be Banned?” by the Kelly Yang Project, they suggest that these risky competitions should be banned. …show more content…
In many parts of our world today there is a great lack of food supply where it is most desired. These countries don’t nearly have as much food as we consume which results in poverty. We must start balancing our food supply and eliminate wasting food on these games but provide for the greater good(The Kelly Yang Project 1). In this sport people overeat to come out on top without thinking about others needs and realizing how lucky we are that we have food and are nourished. We need to start helping the other countries so that they can be just as nourished and healthy. Also, according to the Kelly Yang Project, while these competitions are in session if a competitor ends up becoming sick or ends up choking it costs the country thousands of dollars for medical personnel(Kelly Yang Project 1). This shows that it is also wasteful for economical reasons and also affects our own country by wasting valuable money that could've gone into good use. These matches waste more than we realize which makes us come to the realization that we must ban these type of competitions from taking place.
