For example, anxiety is caused by chemical imbalances. Doctors usually prescribe medication to people as a quick fix because it requires less work and kicks in faster. Alprazolam is a very popular anxiety medication that is prescribed. “Anxiety causes chemical imbalances that are known to respond well to medicinal treatments. That's why doctors prescribe medications to treat anxiety, and why most people prefer medications to therapy (since anxiety medicines are essentially instant and require less work)” (Calm Clinic). Although Alprazolam is helpful when treating anxiety, it is usually prescribed without any other treatment. This is one reason why Alprazolam is used incorrectly. Medication shouldn’t be the only form of treatment someone is given. If they don’t develop coping skills, they can become dependent on medication. For example, “ I would march into a doctor’s office and say, “I had neck surgery and am in terrible pain.” I never asked for Vicodin by name; I would wait for the doctor to suggest it, then say, in a worried voice, “I don’t want to get addicted to pills!” Invariably, he would assure me that I would be fine and that this medication would make me feel better” (Welch). This is someone’s personal experience when it came to prescription medication and how it influenced her pill addiction. From the beginning she displayed symptoms of euphoria when she was first prescribed medication for painkillers. This led to an addiction that wasn’t monitored or considered by doctors although she insisted that she didn’t want to get addicted her doctors disregarded that and gave out the prescription.
