Who should protect the elderly? First and foremost family should stand up for their loved one’s rights to safety and independent living. All family members should make it a point to emphasize the importance of safe practices in daily life such as caution when traveling in public, avoiding situations that could result in one being taken advantage of, careful banking procedures, and home safety. Our parents teach us to look both ways when crossing the street to protect us as children, should it not be second nature to protect them in much the same way, especially as they become more vulnerable to society? I find it strikingly disappointing to see so many seniors without the support of their loved ones whether it be children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren. Family should always look out for family regardless of the dependent nature of the loved one. Sure many seniors pride themselves on their independence and aim to control their own lives but it is imperative that we as a society take action and through awareness and precaution protect our seniors. In almost thirty states of the U.S family members are financially responsible for senior relatives, should the same standard not also be set for the emotional and…
Seniors don't earn an income, which means they won't really benefit from the “100 percent take-home wages” concept of the Fair Tax Act. They'll also have to suffer from paying more sales tax, when they had paid high income taxes when they were younger and thus have already done their part in contributing to the economy.…
nineties. Because of the variation in driving abilities and the high incidence of fatal accidents…
One of the most common claims made by advocates for the elderly drivers are as following even though the initial licensing procedures vary greatly in the United States. However, those who tend to favor the allowance of elderly citizens to drive on their own, likely believe it is an insult to senior citizens ability to drive…
On December 1, 1955, a black woman was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama; her name was Rosa Parks. Rosa was arrested for not giving up her seat on a bus to a white man. This event during the Civil Rights Movement sparked a massive boycott against the bus system, the boycott affected the way black’s had to travel throughout their own cities, and the Freedom Rides also started to after Rosa’s arrest.…
Often times if one asks another what age group they think is the most dangerous drivers one would say teenagers. Lately there have been many reports claiming that these thoughts are no longer true and that elderly drivers are considered the most dangerous age group on the road. The Washington Post said that in the age group sixty- five and over have accounted for “sixteen percent of all traffic deaths and eight percent of the injured, but they accounted for thirteen percent of the population.” With statistics so high why is there no questions being asked about the ability the elderly have to drive. Research shows that the older one gets the worse their vision and hearing can get these are two key senses you need when driving. The loss of these two senses can be the difference between life and death on the road. Death rates for drivers begin to climb after age sixty-five, according to a recent study by Carnegie Mellon University. The elderly should have to prove to the Registry of Motor Vehicles that they are capable of driving by retesting, completing and passing a drivers education course, or putting an age limit on how old one can be until one they are considered no longer able to drive.…
The debate whether or not elderly people should be considered a minority, I would say is very distressing. Initially a Minority in the US would be defined as an ethnic, religious, or other groups of people who may face prejudice and discrimination from the majority, as a result of their differences. Numerous people may consider the elderly falling in that category because they have a clear social identity based on age and they are more likely to face prejudice and discrimination. However, I do not because like us all, everyone gets to that stage of life when we become old in age and are titled as “the elderly”. Gordon Streib also stated that the minority status is usually both permanent and exclusive, like being African American or women. While…
I think that elderly people should get free rides because they don’t don’t have jobs to get money for the buses that they have to ride if they don’t have a car so I think that elderly’s should get free rides because they can’t do a lot of stuff like the younger people that have job unlike the elderly people were they don’t have jobs that they can’t do maybe because they have fingers they have displaced or they have something else that they can't do that job or any other jobs.…
Aging populations from relatively poor backgrounds out to receive resources higher than the elderly from relatively well up neighbors. This will ensure that the elderly from poor backgrounds receive health care just as those from well up neighborhoods, and will enhance equity. Another ethical issue to consider in the perspective of the background is areas prone to diseases of the elderly. Aging populations from slums and poor areas tend to suffer a lot near the end of their lives. This is because they live in disease prone areas where they easily contract and succumb to diseases. Resource allocation in the care of the elderly should center on the aging in disease prone areas. These populations of the elderly should receive higher resource allocation to ensure that they are accorded the essential health care.…
Driving is a serious things. It’s very dangerous. Some people want to raise the age limit on driving. What do you think?…
This year the event I have studied was the Bus Boycott in American, Montgomery, in 1955. The causes of the bus boycott are the racial discrimination that the African American community had been shown and also Rosa Parks protest and arrest. The consequences of the Bus Boycott is the involvement and the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision of desegregating all of America , and also another consequence that is important to the event is the grand boost in the Civil Rights movement campaign. I will justify why the Bus Boycott an important event to the Civil Rights Movement by the showing evidence of the racial discrimination, Rosa Parks arrest, involvement and the impact of the Supreme court, and also the boost in the civil…
Do people believe the United States should prove free health care to everyone? Some people believe that the United States should provide a health care plan. People believe the health care should be affordable for everyone. That vaccinations should be affordable for everyone to purchase. The United States should provide a right to health care plan.…
Aging is defined as the process of growing old or developing the appearance and characteristics of old age. And disability is defined as having a physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activity. I feel that these two things are important parts of our generation, the way these people are treated show us what we should expect in the future. Do we want this for our future? I would have to say “NO” and in order for this not to happen to us when we hit old age or heaven forbid we become disabled in some way, we have to make changes now and the only way to do that is to better understand these two minorities. We need to be their voices and show them that we are fighting for them just as much as they are fighting for themselves.…
Home care aids can also help with transportation to ensure you senior loved one does not become homebound. The loss of a driver's license or simply not feeling safe on the road can be a tremendous cause of stress and depression. Transportation services can open the world back up and put a smile back on their face.…
Parking fines are almost always awarded as the same penalty charge, regardless of the perpetrator’s income. The effect of this is that the fine costs more to the poor than it does to the rich. Is this fair? To answer this, we must consider whether or not those that earn more have a right to a lesser punishment.…
