Should celebrities be allowed to say whatever they want? Should the rights of the First Amendment be applied differently to celebrities? Celebrities, like all of us should be able to voice their political opinions, but unlike the majority of us, celebrities have an enormous platform and with this platform, celebrities can bring a greater audience to controversial issues and bring about change. The power of celebrity’s voices can be seen in current events as well as the 1968 Summer Olympics Black Power Salute, Jada Pinkett Smith, Colin Kaepernick, and Meryl Streep.

In her speech, Streep talked about an incident that happened on Trumps campaign trail in South Carolina when publicly mocked a disabled reporter. Streep's speech made more people aware of the incident, without her speech, many would still be ignorant of the matter.
Celebrities should be able to voice their political opinions. They can bring a greater audience to controversial issues and bring about change. Not only should we remember that actors are people, with feelings and opinions rather than robots. Celebrities are not just for our entertainment and it's important to acknowledge that factor. Celebrities, like all of us should be able to voice their political opinions. In fact, because of their enormous platform and ability to reach a big audience, I believe they have an obligation to use their First Amendment Rights
