Misleading information on social media platforms can cause a wide-mass fear and that would not help anyone. Governments should have the power to stop social media in times of emergency because it is an unnecessary tool that would only spark fear in the population if used. Governments are known to hide information from the general public, this is their way of protecting their civilians because it would do more harm than good, this would just be another one of those actions. One must consider that social media can have a positive effect when there is a disaster situation, such as helping in finding missing family members. However the negative impacts overweigh the positive which is why it is absolutely necessary for government shut down of social media. Fear is the root of death, what civilians don't know won't kill them. Having the government protect certain information, that would spark fear in the general population, from the public would be a wise
