Should governments reduce the use of foreign workers to overcome youth unemployment?
Youth unemployment is the unemployment of young people aged between 15 to 24 years old. Based on a new report by the International Labour Organization, the worldwide youth unemployment rate has remained high, at 12.6 percent in 2011 and 12.7 percent in 2012. This indicates that globally, nearly 75 million of youngsters are unemployed. (Refer to Figure 1) The youth unemployment possibly be the biggest concern and challenge because it influences the standard of living and the future of the country.

The article is titled “The frustration of unemployment in Arab is spilling over into the streets” which was published in 2011 by The Daily Star. In my opinion, this source is reliable as the author, Jeffrey D. Sachs is an expert and does not have any vested interests in this matter. The author states that the world labour markets are interconnected. The youths in countries like Egypt and the United States are competing with young people from China and India for jobs. The author had consider some reasons to the lack of competitiveness of the young workers in Egypt and the U.S over the youths in China and India. For example, the major economic impact would probably be the loss of job opportunities for the locals and thus causes low standards of living in the countries. However, after the research, I think that the use of foreign workers is not necessarily always harmful. I have considered some opposing ideas from others. In conclusion, I think that reducing the number of foreign workers in an immediate time may be unachievable due to the high dependency from the firms. Undoubtedly, the use foreign workers may be one of the factors that caused youth unemployment, however, at the same time, we could not ignore the benefits of using foreign
