There are those who would say government should not pass a law to make it easier to “undocumented” immigrants to legally live and work in the United States.
For example, the quote “Illegal Impact”, says “Illegal immigrants are a drain on the resources of public health care.” However, Illegal’s do not have documents and couldn’t get public services. Another argument is / Other’s claim that Illegal immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than the average. Nevertheless, entering a country without documents and permission is a crime. Finally, it has been argued that we should not make it easier for “undocumented’’ immigrants to legally live and work in United States. However, Illegal immigrants are good for United States economy. Therefore, we should pass a law to make it easier for illegal immigrants to become
citizens. There are many reasons that the government should pass a law to make it easier to “undocumented” immigrants to legally live and work in the United States because they are good for US economy. For example, according to the article, New Ways of Seeing and Thinking “Workers in larger cities with more immigrants are the most productive in the US economy, partly due to spillovers of diverse ideas. This shows that achievements in big cities depend critically on the influx of new ideas brought by immigrants. In another example, according to the article Are Illegal immigrants good for the US economy? “Undocumented immigrants spend billions of dollar each year, which support our economy and help create jobs”. This shows that illegal immigrants contribute to our economy and raises the economy of United States. Finally, according to the article, New Ways of Seeing and Thinking “A Taiwanese immigrant, David Ho, was the first to realize that while no one antiviral drug could stop AIDS, a diverse cocktail of such drugs might do it. Following through on that logic resulted in new AIDS drugs and his selection as Time magazine’s Man of the Year in 1996. He saved millions of lives”. This shows that immigration policies create cultural, ethnic and religious diversity and produce cognitive diversity which resides the economic, scientific and cultural value of immigrants. For all of these reasons, government passes a law to make it easier for “undocumented” immigrants to legally live and work in the United States. It is better to pass law and make it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens because immigrants bring diverse histories with them and diversity explains why the United States leads the world in innovation and scientific achievement. * Sadichhya K.C.
