To this date the legal driving age in Australia is 16, there has been a discussion throughout the community of increasing the legal driving age to 21 in Australia. Concerns of drink driving under the legal age limit had caused a sky-rocket in fatalities on the road in 2013 from drivers under the age of 20. With the age increased to 21, this means there will be fewer drivers on the road, which will cause less blocking on the road. Reasons why the age limit should stay at the age of 16, is because teenagers need to learn to be independent to be ready for the real world and to have a responsibility to maintain a prize possession.

Teenagers realise the information that they need to know to be able to drive on the roads. Making teenagers more independent helps them help their parents around the house with chores, being independent can also help at school on assignments that have to be done on your own. If the age was to be increased to 21, teenagers would not be independent until the age, as they would not be able to do anything unless they have transport to get to the place they wish to go to. By raising the legal driving age to 21 parents would be too busy, as they have to take their kids (who are teenagers) to events and parties.
Having a licence, at the age of 16 will make you more responsible on and off the roads. Teenagers will have to take care and maintain their car, which includes; not losing your keys or damaging the car. Teenagers that have a car at the age of 16, have shown to be more successful in life, through education and work. This is due to the responsibility has been put on them by their parents.
In my opinion, I think that the legal driving age should stay at 16, because teenagers need to learn to be more responsible and independent and a car is the best way to start, the knowledge that you receive from driving at the younger ages can help you in later
