Should National Examination Be Erased?
If we give the question above to the students, I am sure they will give “YES” as the answer, If we give the same question to our government, maybe the government will say “NO”, and if you ask me “should national examination be erased?” I will say “NO” as the answer. It does not mean I am on government side. I stand as someone who has experienced national examination and passed it. In my opinion we do not need to erase national examination because that is one way to know our education index, so we can compare with other countries. By conducting national examination, we also make the students make an effort to pass the examination. And we cannot admit that some students do cheating and some wrong ways to pass the exam, and they said that is their effort. Throughout the national examination, the teachers can improve their professionalism by creating various teaching method to teach the student without put more pressure to them. Also, the teacher are demanded to set strategies that take students to the purpose of learning, or in this situation is at least fulfill the grade of national exam. We do not need to erase the national examination, but what should we do is making some changes such as use the national examination just to measure not to determine whether the student can pass or not, because we still have the learning process including portfolios, homework, and daily examinations. In order to make our national examination better and to create “clean exam” without cheating, buying and selling answer key. It is needed cooperation both from the government and from the education subject. In the end, the Indonesian people may have to support governmental policy concerning the national exam, where the country allocates 20 percent of its budget toward education. In conclusion, the national exam is still needed and National examination needs not only improvement but also support from education subject and the society.

The excruciating examination process in which thousands of pressured students who are not fully ready to take an exam, must prove what they have ‘learned’ to aggressive and rapacious examiners, only a minority being selected in the vast marine of shinning students who have just been unchained of the shackles of school work and deadlines? And the rest...? They are left to dry out in the harsh world, to be taunted for doing miserable on that one day, not being given another try. Exams deteriorate us and oppress our very lives making our everyday routine revising and reiterating for an exam that can determine our whole life. The 2 sided pages trap us into our failure, whilst the time ticks at its loudest, making us write nothing but a single letter on a line which finally concludes our end result. Of course if you are to do well, you are fine, but with the ever-changing ruthless mark scheme it’s very difficult to do just well. The pressure put on the fragile mind only gives the tormenter one choice under the stress leading to the examination. To give up! Even the polite and civilised students fall and loose complete confidence in them self’s, feeling like they ruined there only last chance to shine. NO! Masses of tress being removed, the same tress giving us the air we breathe. Papers and papers and pages and pages... all for a single letter on a line, is it truly worth it? Examinations should be banned from the education procedures to avoid any harm it does to the livelihood of a child’s mind.…

    Naplan Should Be Banned

I agree with the article “Testing times for NAPLAN” that the NAPLAN testing in which a million students in years 3,5,7 and 9 undertake numeracy and literacy tests should be banned . NAPLAN constricts teaching and learning, stifles creativity, pressurises kids and schools ,leads to comparison with other schools and does nothing to improve the students learning . NAPLAN will not improve Australia’s education system, indeed it is making it worse. Teachers do not get the chance to see the test papers of Individual students therefore the teachers cannot discuss results with students i.e. where the student went wrong and how they could improve . Parents, Teachers and students never even get the chance to receive the answers sheet so there is virtually no way telling were the student has gone wrong. Schools don’t know how to improve their learning problems to well after the NAPLAN results have been sent out in late September or October almost six months after these tests have taken place. Many schools spend the weeks prior to the test dates in preparing for the tests, stressing out students and stifling their creativity. This over preparing for the tests wastes the lessons time in which students should be learning other things. Schools and students must take time out of the school day just to complete the tests in which many students finish with plenty of time to spare. This just wastes teachers ,students and parents time .The NAPLAN tests are required to be taken at the same time this could interrupt many schools time frames with students doing the tests during their lunchtimes and before their school is usually meant to start ,and honestly what is the reason for this is it just so one student doesn’t text their friend at another school the answers to question 18 ?…

These test only show the students’ performance the day of the test and not the overall growth of the student over the year. The standardized test does a disservice to both the teacher who worked hard to help their students grow and the student who worked extremely hard over the course of the year and improved tremendously, but failed to pass the test. Many people would argue that teacher and student performance should be evaluated on growth over the year instead of one single test. Many of these students are smart and understand the content, but it does not show on the test. Also many students develop test anxiety which causes stress on the students which leads to negativity directed at school and learning in general. In a picture the teacher says “For a fair selection everybody has to take the same exam: Please climb that tree”. The students he is talking to are a money penguin, elephant, fish, seal, and a dog. Based on these animals only the money will be able to pass the test. This is how the government see all the students, they believe all students are the same when they are actually…

In conclusion, standardized testing doesn’t accurately measure the academic ability of the student, and it does not reflect what’s being taught in the classroom on a daily basis. The tests really aren’t a valid reflection of the students performance and it needs to be stopped. Standarized testing evaluates a students performance based off one day and not off what they actually really know. There are also many people who just don’t perform well on tests. There are plently of children who are intelligent and understand the content completely, but it isn’t going to show on the test. There is also kids who develop test anxiety which hinders their performance.…

Students would score higher on their tests if they were not rushed into the learning process. State testing can cause stress in students as a result of many things. Many students feel pressured from state testing with being told that their move to the next grade counts on them passing or not. It should be banned because no student should have to stress over one test that is not going to benefit them later in life; moreover, stressing for younger students can cause mental harm yet they still implement on using them for academic…

Schools should keep standardized testing to improve students’ education. It’s an efficient way to someone’s knowledge. After a student takes a state test they have to submit it. Then, a couple weeks later the student would find out how well they did on the test. State testing can be thought as testing someone on how well they listen, and understand a theme being taught. State educators can see from the scores the students have made, and what the student can do better next time to achieve a higher score. It can show how much one has learned through the years and last test. Most teachers keep a record of each student on how much they have learned throughout the years from the last test. Teachers then can meet with the students, and talk over what the student can do to become even more successful during state testing. Stricter standards and increased testing are better preparing school students for college. Teachers with high, and stern qualities can help students improve their testing score, but how? Students at some point will get into the habit of studying for anything weather it is a small quiz to a huge exam. This is substantial because once students go off to college they are most likely to be successful, and graduate college with a high GPA because they would have kept that study habit. This is good for college exams too. You can see why, schools should…

To start off with, standardized tests are inaccurate. As previously stated in the paragraph above, standardized tests are hyped throughout the school year, leaving students to worry about them all year. This will eventually cause the students to feel extremely stressed out on the day of the test. The stress will get to some students and affect their testing ability. This can be prevented in a variety of ways, but removing the test entirely would be the best and the most cost efficient way to fix this.…

The National Certificate of Educational Achievement - or “NCEA” – was introduced earlier this century between 2002 and 2004. Its primary objective is to offer a standard-based, as opposed to norm-based, system for assessment. In evaluating only a student’s self-knowledge and understanding, NCEA promotes mediocrity. With no comparison to more advanced students, the system provides no incentive to excel. The Cambridge International Examinations curriculum consists of an exam at the end of the year for each course. From this exam, the applicants receive their final grade for the subject. This avoids internal work, which NCEA is largely comprised of. Internal assessment often leads to inconsistent marking and unfair biased judgment of student work. The Cambridge International Examinations curriculum, in being a largely exam-based programme, prepares students for tertiary study better than NCEA. I believe the Cambridge International Examinations will provide a more advanced structure and a far superior academically challenging course that NCEA has not successfully implemented.…
