We reward them for their parents signing them up for a league. We do not reward them for their good effort, or improvement on their skills but, we reward them for being able to show up on the last day; the day that they are handing out trophies. They are getting a reward for being registered for the sport or activity and never actually going to a practice. Another thing is that you should not have to bribe a kid to go out and do a sport because if you do maybe that’s a problem. Just like you should not always have to bribe a kid to eat dinner with an ice cream cone. From the article, The Great Trophy Debate, “If we are going to give out awards, then let’s make them mean something. Winning the Heisman Trophy is not about the worth of that hunk of metal; it’s representative of everything and everyone that went into the development of a great athlete over the years. A trophy or a medal should be a symbol for something earned, not a token of appreciation. Let’s make awards mean something.” I think that coaches should hand out a weekly award to the “hardest worker” or “most improved” to make the other kids work
