Essay on, Should schools banned junk food from vending machines.

We as fellow americans come across facing desicions, some in which we are taking affirmitive action, for instence banning junk foods from school vending machines. Into todays society we are in crisis do to our over eating habits, causing a massive affect on obesity an other health related issues by the millions.

A nationwide survey of vending machines in middle schools and high schools finds that 75 percent of the drinks and 85 percent of the snacks sold are of poor nutritional value. It’s hard enough for parents to guide their children’s food choices, but it becomes virtually impossible when public schools are peddling junk food throughout the school day, CSPI nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan said . “Many parents who send their kids off with lunch money in the morning have no clue that it can be so readily squandered on Coke, Doritos, and HoHos”, thus for containing such foods can lead to students less able to pay attention in class or perform well on tests. The avaibility on junk foods in schools is only encouraging the growing problem americans already have, but simply offering only healthy choices would force students to begin a healtheir lifestyle.

Not only does unhealthy food choices cause obesity, diabetes for instence is one of the problems to unhealthy eating. This condition can lead to significant health problems, such as blindness, loss of nerve sensation and more. High blood pressure is as well a serious risk, for example a 12-oz. serving of Coca-Cola contains 64mg of caffeine, making it comparable to a 5-oz. serving of coffee. Because it is a stimulant, the potential exists that the caffeine in cola can raise your blood pressure and causing heart conditions along with it. Sleep apnea do to junk food has a mass effect on the human brain, because it is sientificly proven the human brain needs altest 8 hours of rest, if were not getting the amount of sleep we need to consume, the brain will not function for our normal daily rutines.

It was metioned once by my professer that schools often sell junk foods in vending machines to raise financial funds for the district. Neccesseraly school's don't only have the choice to sell unhealthy food choices, they just simply chose not to but by voluntarily setting higher nutrition standards for vending machine foods, schools can financially progess greatly and not experience a drop-off in revenue by switching to healthier foods. There are also many other ways in raising school financial funds ,Talent show,Car wash,basketball tournament,Community job fairs. There are widley alot of opions.

in conclusion, junk foods do not provide alot of postive effects on our health physically and mentally so with banning unhealthy foods from vending machines we have a greater risk at being alot more healthier.
