Should Society Be Allowed to Own Guns
Should people be allowed to own guns?
Guns are dangerous, powerful weapons that should not be legalized. These murderous weapons are used for intimidation and power, which corrupt the world. A person having the right to own weapons puts the public in danger. For example, public shootings like Columbine and Virginia Tech will be more likely to happen because of the easier access to guns. Since the right to own weapons became legalized, students have been bringing guns to school and the drama in high school will result in violent gun fights. I believe that people should not be allowed to own weapons in public places because people do not need guns to assure safety and should not have that amount of power.
Safeties do not always require power. Most people believe that in order to be safe from danger one must contain power. For example, they think that the result in being legally able to physically conceal guns will grant them safety, but it will not. Richard Patterson, a board member of the Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence, stated, “But too few of us know that, since the legalization of guns, more Americans have died than in all the wars of the 20th century, the bloodiest 100 years in world history”. This passage shows the danger of guns and how guns are not used for safety but for violence, which is a clear reason why the right to own guns should not be legalized. I think there are others ways to be safe without the right to own guns. There are even a few places that specifically teach people how to prevent themselves from guns, like Kra Magah. The legalization of guns will do the exact opposite of what people hope, instead of bringing safety it will cause more violence.
Furthermore, not only do guns fail to assure safety but, they also grant civilians an excess of power. A famous cliché states that “with great power comes great responsibility”. The problem with granting the public with this much power is, that will be a major lack of

I think that American citizen should not be able to own a firearm because many people kill innocent people all the time. Many people kill for violent reason and for no reason. There is a lot of heart aches from all the killing and massacres that people do. The Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence reports that an average of 268 people are shot every day in America. That's 97,820 per year. Maybe, but people with guns kill many, many more people than they would if they didn't have guns, and guns are designed to kill as many people as possible. We don't know if the murderers are suffering from a suicidal depression, but many mass shooters in the past were. And guess what? People suffer from suicidal depression everywhere in the world. People get angry and upset everywhere in the world. The reason is that people in those places who have these impulses have an easy way to access lethal weapons and unlimited ammunition. But if you want to kill large numbers of people and you happen to be an American, you'll find it easy to do.…

The role guns play in our society has long been a controversial topic for the past few years in the united states. There are those who believe that guns do not belong in the hands of citizens and there are those who believe that guns are the foundation that protects our rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. There are too many leading factors as to why there should not be any stricter gun control laws. Some of these factors are that they go against our fundamental rights of self defense, give too much power to the government, and could potentially increase crime rates in the united states.…

Should the National Government take away gun rights? One, should it be the States rights? If the National Government took away everyone's guns no one could protect themselves. But if citizens are armed they could protect their family, friends and themselves. If everyone is armed they would be safe but also dangerous. It's a right to bear arms but it's the common good that's not everyone is armed, that's where background checks come in. When someone buys a gun they have to be checked for any criminal history.…

First of all, letting people make uncontrolled gun purchases creates a dangerous and chaotic environment for other people. In my opinion, people having gun with them are so many that, it is dangerous to wander in public places such as; streets and parks, because when people especially 18 or 19 year old people have guns, anything can happen anytime. If we consider the rate of young people with guns increase every other day, inevitable events occur. For example, at the premiere of "Batman" in Colorado in summer 2012, a 24 year old gunman opened fire on the people in the theater in the middle of the movie and killed 12 people there. In fact, that is when the government started to consider the gun laws, but the issue is still suspended.…

Because of this, it may be in the citizens’ favor to ban or limit the availability and ownership of these sorts of guns. Furthermore, many people want to be able to possess guns in order to protect themselves, however research shows that they are rarely used for self defense. Some people use self defense as a reason for having looser gun control law, but “Of the 29,618,300 violent crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, 0.79% of victims (235,700) protected themselves with a threat of use or use of a firearm”. Since it is very uncommon that victims even use guns for protection, it seems unnecessary that America allows everyone to possess such a dangerous weapon after all the people that have been put in danger because of it. In conclusion, for all the devastation guns have caused, America should have stronger gun control laws as it is very important to think about the lives and safety of the citizens above all…

Gun Safety has been a big topic that people are speaking of all the time. The Second Amendment says that citizens have the right to bear arms. That amendment was created for militias as America had become free and they didn’t want any surprise attacks from Britain incase they tried to take America back, now America and Britain are close allies. Everyday on the news there’s always a shooting and maybe it’s because guns are easy to access. I do not think that civilians need guns. Now some might argue that the police are corrupt and that they don’t want to rely on the police to do something that they can handle but that is their job. If guns are banned than their needs to be higher protection against smuggling as criminals will obviously not…

Gun control in the United States has become a highly controversial topic over the years. There have been plenty of debates on the gun control laws and people have taken to being either pro gun control laws or anti gun control laws. One thing we can’t deny would be that gun control laws would keep us all safer and even save lives. Statistic show that more guns equals to more homicide cases. If more citizens have easy access to guns, they’re more likely to kill than if they didn’t have easy access to the guns. Public places like schools, restaurants, and churches are not acceptable places for people to be carrying guns; it puts the public in danger. It should be illegal.…

We have freedom and rights that no one can mess with, unless the government bans guns. “The second Amendment to the constitution is limited to protecting the state militia’ right to bear arms” (Buckley1). If we ban our citizens guns then we are violating their right to the second amendment. We will being restricting a form of freedom for them. “The basic right of the american citizen is to bear arms, whether to kill game, or to wound and kill human beings bent on murder or rape” (Buckley1). The right to bear arms is important because of this reason. We can hunt and we can protect our people, without that right the criminals would have the advantage not, not the citizens. “Our founding fathers saw guns to be such an important line of defense…” (Chadduck1). This is why the Second Amendment was made. It is the right of an american citizen to keep a gun for safety reasons. Gun were made to harm the enemies targeting us, so do not take that away from the…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

    Why Guns Should Be Banned

    • 667 Words

The first reason that guns should be banned for ordinary citizens is that guns are the sign of violence. Guns are made for killing and harming other human beings. In many states there are “Shoot First” laws that allow people to defend themselves in public using guns with no duty to retreat. The Shoot First law can be dangerous to other people who are present in the area and people can get injured and killed. Why should governments allow people to own and carry guns in the name of protection? When there are law and police in a country people do not…

Gun control has been a very debated topic in America for as long as the county has been a country. Some believe that there is no reason to have personally owned guns because of the danger and violence associated with them. Others believe that guns are the backbone of American society and without them chaos would ensue and the country would no longer function. There are also many in the middle that believe that there should be regulations on the types of firearms and the number of them and individual may be allowed to own.…

There are so many people on both sides of the issue that it will not ever stop being debated. There are some good points from both sides of the debate. There should be stricter background policies that should be run on people. People should not be allowed to have over 10 rounds for certain types of guns. People should not be allowed to carry AK-47s because these should be used only for military purposes. Americans should be able to defend themselves with presented with danger. In my real opinion, I think gun laws should a lot stricter than they are. These background checks should be way more thorough and if any past wrongdoings or mishaps show up, then their permits should be revoked. The places that sell guns should be checked in on periodically as well. I’m sure these places help people get guns that shouldn’t be getting them. I think it is completely insane to think that American citizens would be safer if everyone were allowed to have guns. There would be more accidental shootings than ever imaginable if this happened. I have owned a gun for several years and have only fired it couple of times to make sure I can use it. I have never had to use it, but I would if my life or family was in danger. I don’t like guns and never have, so I think the gun laws are too weak and should be stricter than they are now. A lot of innocent people would be alive if…

Picture sitting in school while people next to you possess guns. Though this may sound a bit farfetched, it can happen. Due to the second amendment of the Constitution, one has the right to bear arms. It is reasonable that people would want access to guns for the sport of hunting though. But allowing people to "carry" guns is reckless. Firearms should be outlawed because they have granted children access to kill easily, inflated the murder rate in the United States, were created to kill, and have inflated the murder rate in the United States.…

It’s understandable that many people want to completely restrict guns because of their personal experiences or tragedies of someone they know dealing with shootings or guns. It’s also understandable that gun laws are passed only to look out for the safety of others. Guns can be really dangerous once it’s placed in the wrong hands. Saying from complete honesty, we can all agree that guns actually do help criminals kill or injure the innocent. Using a gun, a thief can easily rob a bank, or even a psychopath can easily gun down a school with just a press of a trigger. I mean, guns are dangerous right?…
