Should Some Music Be Censored?
some people think that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it without containing and controversial lyrics. Other's believe it should not be censored and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone censoring them. "Whether a person finds a work obscene depends largely on his or her moral or religious beliefs. These views change with each generation and further complicate the censoring dilemma." this quote is very true. Religious or moral beliefs have a great influence on how a person feels about censoring, and as generations pass on the common beliefs on it may change. Right now, america is more uncensored than ever. However, things were very different a few generations ago.
I define censoring as being the control of what people may say or hear, read or write, or see or do. Censoring music lyrics is not the answer, Censoring music should start in the home. Parents don't have to know all the songs that kids listen to, but they should have an idea of what type of music is promoting their children's interest. When I was growing up in my home my parents realized what type of music i listened to, but out of respect for them I try not to play it all the time. The famous rapper Heavy D, always quoted that, "It is up to the household for parents to control the viewing and listening privilages of their children.
I don't think they should censor music because it is common sense. The parents should be aware that there is a CD warning label. It's the parents responsibility to monitor what their children watch or listen to because music is not the only factor that affects teenage behavior, Politicians and certain organizations say that some artists are irresponsible with their influence and positions. They also say that lyrics in some songs are a bad influence on today's youth because it is vulgar or abrasive. and because of this it causes unruly behavior in

Although I don’t agree with most forms of censorship, I feel as if it is important in certain situations. For instance, television must be censored because all age groups watch it, and it influences younger children’s behavior because they have seen it on television. Not to mention anyone at any time can watch TV. Whereas censoring books is completely different. The reader has the option to read the book, making the author not reliable. Not just any age group can pick up a book and begin to read the content. But a six-month-old baby can sit in front of a television and be influenced by the action of a criminal. Certain things influence certain age groups and I feel as if books shouldn’t be responsible. You have to actually read a book; you cannot just sit and watch the pages. I feel as if censorship should appeal to only things that require it, and in my opinion, books do not require censorship.…

For centuries, the issue of censorship has been endlessly debated. And the issue is still apparent in today’s society. Should society be censored from certain material and scenes? The piece “The Atlantic Monthly” was written over one hundred years ago. In it the author believes that scenes which are inappropriate to even some should be “given up” freely to the public. It is clear that though the censorship of today’s society, this author had a valid point.…

According to Lois Lowry, “ Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of The Giver: the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all.” (Lowrey)…

I believe censorship is acceptable because it’s very much needed in today’s society. Not all movies or music are meant for a younger age group. There are specific genres and ratings for children because most adults believe they should be “shielded” from the topics discussed or depicted. The NC-17 rating is perfect for those people who enjoy seeing brains ripped out of a person’s head. Also censorship is acceptable because there is larger variety of movies for parents to see while their child watches a PG…

To add up, due of the amendment made by our founding fathers, I do not believe there will ever be an answer to the question whether or not music should be censored. The way I see, it should not be censored. Unfortunately, many children often hear explicit language from older siblings or parents at an early age. They believe that since someone…

Our culture should not have censored material. I think that if you have censored material it is hiding away part of the real world. Keeping controversial and upsetting material away from the public eye promotes ignorance and stupidity, but I feel that sometimes there should be limitations for the comfort of others. Overall, people should become more open minded and except the fact that they are going to see or hear things they do not want to. I think if you do not like something, then do not do anything that has to do with it. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury he shows that censoring material causes people to become lazy and not think.…

Religious or moral beliefs have a great influence on how a person feels about censorship, and as generations pass on the common beliefs on it may change. Right now, America is more uncensored than ever. However, things were very different a few generations ago. Some people believe music should be censored. They believe some of the language musical artists use is vulgar, obscene, and crude. Also the fact that music is played on forms of media such as radio and television. Those are broadcasted to all audiences, and there are many parents that would not wish for their kids to hear foul language. So on radio and television any controversial language is either silenced, or edited out by a soft sound. Some artists make two versions of their songs; one that is made for the artist's album, which is uncensored; and one for television and radio with any controversial words change to be acceptable for all audiences. This does not include cable television, which can be audited by parents since the parents must order and pay for the channel to be viewed.…

Imagine, if you will, a world where we are told what music to sing, what music to play, and even what we may listen to in the privacy of our own homes. That world already exists as a reality in more countries that you might imagine, and that very reality is knocking on our door: In the USA, lobbying groups have succeeded in keeping popular music off the concert stage, out of the media, and off of the shelves.…

Boris Opening Statement- Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two decades. There have been many different arguments on the topic, however the question still remains as if it should be censored or it should not be censored. Before you can form an opinion on this, you must hear both sides of the argument on this much-debated topic. Some people believe that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it without it containing any controversial lyrics. Others believe it should not be censored and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone censoring them. Preventing speech is a clear violation of the First Amendment. When you really think about it, it is a violation of the First Amendment, which says: "Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech or of the press". The First Amendment guarantees the right to freedom of speech, and censorship is violating peoples' rights to say whatever they…

Although there is a fair share of people that are offended by some of today’s music, the First Amendment rights shouldn’t be taken away. Some alternatives that could be considered are disclaimers. Disclaimers could be presented at the beginning of each song or video so the listener would have the opportunity to change the song or channel.…

Censorship protects our children from seeing what could possibly damage them mentally and keeps things that should not be seen in public to stay in the shadows. Many people hate censorship because they think it takes away their freedom of speech. It doesn’t because as long as the people don’t say things that should be said they won’t be censored. Censorship stops things from being seen that shouldn’t be. Censorship is a necessity for the new…

Music carries many trends from generation to generation, but one of the oldest forms of censorship is what can and can’t be read on paper. Banned books are usually illegal because of certain information that could be a threat to someone or security. Censorship in today’s society can get out of hand real quick on both ends of the issue. It seems like there is always someone who is personally offended by something and tries to take whatever offended them away from everyone else. Then again, if there was no censorship, perhaps collective morals would cease to exist in society. What is not obscene to one person could very well be to another and that is one main reason why censorship does exist. However, that something is obscene to one person shouldn’t forbid another from seeing or hearing that form of expression if they want. Censorship helps gives the right to parents to raise their children in an environment in which parents feel comfortable and it helps parents decide what materials their children can be exposed to and what should be withheld. “We are living in a time when flowers are trying to live on flowers, instead of growing on good rain and black loam,” said Faber. What Faber is talking about is that censorship can also…
