The North African Campaign lasted from June 10th, 1940, to May 13th, 1943; the main focus involved battling for oil reserves, the Suez Canal, and their territory. The Axis powers, Germany and Italy, should have won the Battle of North Africa against the allies, Britain and the French, with India, Zealand, and the United States. There are many reasons why they should have won. They should have used their strategic advancements more usefully, used their military power effectively, and acquired a foothold in oil reserves.
Some strategic advancements they could have appropriately used include blending in with the environment, executing their plans correctly, and having a reliable and consistent supply line. Firstly, …show more content…
The tanks they used and the uniforms they wore were “138 M13/40”(Porter 1) and “Panzer’s I, II, III, IV”(George 1). “Italian uniforms were gray and green”(Farnworth 1). These tanks and uniforms were the opposite colours of the sand and dirt. So, if the equipment had a similar colour to the environment, they would have had a better chance of planning attacks. The second reason the Axis powers should have won the battle of the North Africa Campaign was if they executed their plan correctly. Their plan was not the most effective; they could have been more effective. My sources say, “Allied strategy of driving and squeezing the last Axis armies in North Africa from east and west, until their total defeat and surrender in Tunisia May 1943” (A.H.M 1). and “North Africa Campaign of the Second World War”. The armies of Italy and Nazi Germany suffered a heavy defeat by the British Eighth Army” (Holland 1). These two quotes I have presented show us the negative outcome of their plan. So, if they had conducted a more strategic plan, like taking over land little by little, they would have had a better chance of victory. Finally, by having a reliable …show more content…
One reason is that if they took control of the oil reserves, they would increase their military equipment and supply lines, leading to even more destruction. Also, if Germany took control of the oil reserves, the Allies' power would suffer heavy losses due to the decrease in their manufacturing speed. Firstly, if Nazi Germany and Italy took control of some oil reserves, it would have boosted their military fuel. By refuelling their transportation vehicles, military tanks, and air power, all of which improve their supply line, thus giving them an advantage. “And, of course - to fuel their modern military tanks, vehicles, and aircraft.”(Debusmann 1). With valuable supplies, the oil reserves will benefit and improve Germany and Italy’s supply lines, giving them the advantage of acquiring a foothold, that can help win the North Africa battle, by keeping the supply lines refuelled. My second point is if the Axis powers took control of the oil reserves. They could manufacture bombs, rifles, and rubber tires at an alarming rate, which would help power their military force. “Oil, in all forms, is an absolute necessity for wars and campaigns. Like making bombs, lubricants for guns and machinery”(Churchill 1). Making bombs and rifles is an excellent way to upgrade military power. Thus, upgrading military power strengthened the Axis forces, giving them a better chance of winning. If Germany and Italy
