they are seeing and not what they believe they saw due to the fact that the party wants the citizens to be obedient and agreeable. As a result, the party monitors the civilians to see if their own people are trying to plot against them so they can take matters into their own hands and either brainwash those rebels into believing what the party desires or vanish them from history. Similarly, our world has made us become relatively just like Oceania because it is known that the government is observing us even if we don't know. The government abuses their power and invades our privacy because we don't have the knowledge or a say in the matter. The government decides that they want to observe their people without most civilians knowing. Technology is seen as something we use in everyday life to help us become more productive, but the reality is that the government uses technology as a form of surveillance to observe their people and invade their privacy and persuade them to believe something; therefore we should restrict how the government uses technology to observe its people. Technology is taking us closer to the world of Big Brother because the government is using our phones to track its people. Phones are being used on a daily basis, and it has almost anything we need we have it in our phones but the government use our phones to track and follow us not allowing users to completely be free. In the story, 1984 Big Brother uses telescreen to observe their people 24/7 where they can't do anything without the outer party being watched. Orwell writes, “Inside the flat, a fruity voice was reading out a list of figures which had something to do with the production of pig-iron. The voice came from an oblong metal plaque like a dulled mirror which formed part of the surface of the right-hand wall. Winston turned a switch and the voice sank somewhat, though the words were still distinguishable. The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely.”(Orwell,13). Our world has become a lot like the world of Big Brother because just like the big brother we are being tracked or observed and we too can do anything. Our phones are attracted tracking devices that even when turned off can still follow us. The government has invaded our privacy and they shouldn't have the capability to know where we are because we need to have a sense of freedom and being tracked and even being followed doesn't make us feel free. Our phones are a way to help us in everyday life and having the government capable of sneaking and observing our everyday move ruins makes those fear that one of the essential tools that humans use. According to many studies made in the United States at least, 91% of Americans possess a phone which means that the government is able to track almost its entire population. Using our phones as a way to track us as a form of surveillance isn't the only way we are becoming the world of Big Brother there is also silencing individuals online.
Our world is becoming the same as the world as big brothers because people here are being silenced when they want to express themselves online. Indicilaus who use technology as a way of expressing their freedom of speech is always targeted just like the world of big brother. In the article,” Social media and the silencing effect: why misogyny online is a human rights issue” by Azmina Dhrodia which talks about how women who want to express themselves online are usually targeted and discriminated and can't really express themselves online because they are too scared to express themselves and get targeted with backlash. She writes, “Social media can be a toxic and frightening place for women. Amnesty’s previous research on this issue shows how women parliamentarians in the UK, especially those facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, experience targeted abuse online” (Dhodi, Par. 4). The government and companies are allowing this harassment on free speech. Which makes most people not want to speak out and talk about what they believe seeing that they can be the target by angry mobs of unreasonable people who believe anything the government tells them. Where people who have a different opinion on a topic or disagree are targeted and usually labeled as the people who are the main reason there is a problem when individuals want to express themselves. This connects to the world of Big Brother where people aren't able to express themselves unless they would be targeted by the party. Last way our world is becoming just like Big Brothers is by the government using technology as a way to make us believe that their intentions are good.
Our world is also like the world of Big Brother because the government wants us to believe them by using technology to make us agree with them.
The world of Big Brother uses it news to make people believe what they are doing is the right thing just like in our world where the government used our safety to promote what they believe benefits them. In the article, “Long Beach Police to Use 400 Cameras Citywide to Fight Crime” by Richard Winton talks about how the city wants to add cameras to “detect” individuals who are committing crimes and even catch criminals who are committing a crime and catch them when they are committing it. Winton writes, “Although the city has a few dozen cameras across the community, McDonnell has set up a system to tap into hundreds of privately owned cameras that are part of the city's streetscape. The new program synchronizes law enforcement data with real-time video feeds from parks, beaches, business corridors and even some retail centers” (Winton, Par.3). The city is trying to make what they are doing seem like its what benefits both us and them however they seem to have different intents. The city taps into cameras and they expect us to allow us for them to install cameras wherever they want. The city is using what may seem to the people as an intent to reduce the crime of a city to deliberately observe and spy on individuals. This connects to the world of Big Brother because the party uses the war to make people hate the other countries and love their country when in fact they are just being used and manipulated to hate a country when their own country are the ones who are making them suffer and killing
them.
Technology is the main reason why our world is becoming just like the world of Big Brother. Our world is using technology to silence, survival, and persuade us to become into a totalitarian world. One way our world is becoming like the world of Big Brother is because we are being tracked everywhere we go just like the people of Oceania who are observed all day and night. Another way our world is becoming like Big Brother’s is to buy the lack of freedom of speech where not many people are able to express it where in Big Brother’s world where people are killed if they express their opinion. The last way our world is becoming like the world of Big Brother is because the government is making us believe that what they do is for our own good for our protection when they have a different intent just like the world of Big Brother where it seems like the parties intent is to protect their people. The importance of the argument is to make everyone understand that the world of Big Brother isn’t one where we should live. We are lucky to have right and we should fight to maintain them unless we go to a gourmet where the main issue isn't helping the people it's how does the government maintain its power. Not being allowed to express or believe or freedom isn't a world where one should be want to live in. In the past and currently, countries have seen places like in Big Brothers world where the people suffer and desire to have the same right and privileges most of the people here have. Not being able to do anything besides follow orders should be what our lives should come to and if anything we should make sure that the government are the one following orders and helping the people we know or care for which is why we need to limit their power or control of technology so we don't turn into a world like Big Brothers.
