Should There Be Sanctified?

Unfortunately, something tragic in a community happens. Should there not be a memorial service in honor of those who died? The best option would be sanctification. Sanctification is the act of making something sacred or holy. This is the most helpful because it allows the memorial to be cherished, where it can be set apart as special. This memorial service will commemorate those who died and hope for the best. Sanctification is the more practical option because it allows the area to become hallowed. The Vietnam War Memorial is an example of sanctification. The Vietnam War is when Vietnam was split into North and South Vietnam. This was ongoing during the Cold War and started to involve the US. More than 3 million people died in the Vietnam war, so the memorial was made to honor those that died. The memorial is in Washington D.C., where a long wall honors every man, woman, and child that died. This is very helpful because it honors all the people personally, rather than as one immense group. This would be a better option when something is wanted to be forgotten. Obliteration is when people have to destroy the place where the tragedy happened, in order to move on from the incident. Obliteration allows the community to move on from the past and aim towards the future. Sanctification, however, can cause mourning for a lot longer than obliteration. Although obliteration causes less mourning, sanctification honors the event, like the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, New York, honors the people that died in the attack on the Twin Towers. On November 11, 2001, the Twin Towers were attacked by a terrorist group, which killed almost 3,000 people.
