Shutting the Door When one thinks of the United States and its history, one usually thinks of the young country with a tough beginning. As the power of the nation continued to grow the eye-appealing disposition grew exponentially. As the nation grew it was a definite target of many fleeing from persecution and seeking freedom. The “land of opportunity” is very inviting for those that have nothing or cannot have anything in their home county. When American history is riddled with many stories of immigrants reaching America and becoming successful with a new life of fame or wealth, why would this not happen for anyone? Unfortunately with the opportunity for those seeking betterment, there are also those who are not using the chance for bettering their lives but solely for profit at any cost. Should the borders remain open for any able body to come in and out? Closing the borders will shut out more than just the drug traffickers and all around criminals coming in and out of the states; it also will be closing the chances of opportunity and growth of this great nation. The security at the borders needs to stay on high alert but we must not completely close down the borders. The advancement of detecting equipment and radars at the border must continue to improve. In the battle to keep the US safe from foreign enemies, there have been great strides in the past few years. The attack on the US soil in 2001 on 9/11 was a huge factor in creating stricter hold on the traveling in and out of the border. The danger of the borders has always been there but now it seems a greater risk as the drug wars close to the border are becoming more active. The activity of the drug cartels is more apparent and seems to be spilling into the US side of the student 2 border. There have been more killings and murders due to drug violence in the past years. This needs to be addressed by the government so the influx of the violence
